I always wondered what England would have done in USA 94 with a fit Gazza, Shearer, Sheringham, Ince, Adams, Platt, Seamen. Probably nothing but I still wonder.

Gazza was great, but sporadic. The most consistent England player I’ve seen, has to be Ashley Cole.. Genuinely world class., if not the best the best full back in the world for a good few years.. :)

He didn't score enough goals but he was great defensively.

    My favourite is Lineker.

Don't think we ever saw the best of Gazza due to that tackle in the FA Cup final.

How things have changed. One of the best players we've ever had was so pumped up to be playing in the FA Cup that he launched into a tackle that could have ended the careers of both players. Now even the average players at the top clubs are rested from the competition. Cup games were the best games of the season. Why has that changed.

I remember an interview, some years ago, with Paolo Maldini. He said Scholes was not only the most difficult player he faced, but was the best player in the World.
