A couple of weeks at least now we would have been looking at options for a new manager. Other clubs apart from Cardiff, have made appointments within days. Does the delay suggest we are looking at someone already in a job? Whatever, this is very poor of the club as the two week international break was an ideal opportunity to get a manager up to speed with the players. Not good enough Barnsley FC!
My guess would be that they either can’t make a decision, similar to how they delayed when it was obvious that Schopp needed to go. Or they’re trying to get a European in that can’t get a visa. Or both.
Would rather take a little time to try find the right bloke. Than rush to appease the fans and get it wrong. Schopp was a disaster. One thing is certain. There are no guarantees whoever gets the job. The only person with proven credentials of getting clubs out of the relegation mire. is Warnock. I don't think he'd work under the present owners unless they change tack. Eg allow him to make his own signings in the January window.
You are spot on, it is only 11 days since the disaster Schopp was given his cards , 11 whole days , the people who are moaning that it is taking time will be the same people moaning if the club rush in and get it wrong , I personally have lost interest so they can take as long as they want , I will be still there at every home game but I have given up on this season & being inpatient over the next incumbent seems totally irrelevant to me .
There's no fight in the players. I doubt it was all Schopp looking at some of the silly errors the players are making and failure to track back on numerous occasions by Brittain and Styles leaving the defence exposed. The Forest game where Helik let their striker walk it into the net particularly stands out.
I'd say they've failed to get their man.. for whatever reason who knows... Visa, money, shambles, take your pick..
Whilst players have to take responsibilities too, arguably the biggest part of a Coach/Manager is man management, that’s where the good coaches succeed by getting that little bit extra from the players.
In that case I hope it's taking longer because the board are sorting out Warnock a decent allotment to grow his fruit and veg and travel allowance to Cornwall.
Under 2 weeks (and counting) isn't that long a period to get a new coach over the line. However, given the claims by Conway that they were tapping up Struber and being in regular contact, it poses various questions. Was that yet another claim that was less than true? If they are constantly tapping up coaches, why aren't they being reported for it? If they are in such regular contact, why is the transition from one coach to the next far lengthier than many of our peers? I simply don't trust anything they say, the more you look, the more holes appear.
Given our current turnover of managers, whether we sack or they move onto better paid prospects, you would assume we have some sort of succession planning in place ie realistic coaching targets both in and out of work. Failure to have this in place would be shoddy to say the least. More realistic is that the targets we have identified, as I posted upthread, have little interest in either the 'project' with likely relegation or more simply that the pay we offer is peanuts. That is why at least one of the backroom staff has left recently.
The story on here about the people crying when leaving the box office is so so sad. My main question for the board would just simply be this, what is the hope for us fans long term, what do they want to achieve?? We have had one season of hope and winning games at champ level, on the pitch success isn’t always a given, but it helps with good recruitment on the pitch and in the dugout. But off the pitch, nothing has really improved, no real investment! It’s now time that we had a new west stand, something of a similar design, nothing huge and fancy, but modern with new dug outs and a proper big screen that works…..and is actually big!!!! It’s now getting embarrassing that a championship club has a 3 sided ground with a tiny screen that doesn’t even work. We don’t even have a contactless payment option for food and drink. The board must work with the council and sort things out once and for all, show some ambition! A new decent manger wouldn’t go a miss as well!
The matchday experience has been nothing short of embarrassing for years now! Compared to other clubs we aren’t even National league standard. The catering is dire, the concourses are a **** hole with no teles working. The pop up fan zone was used to paper over these cracks, but let’s be honest, it wasn’t great was it? Not bad in the summer but even then limited numbers meant turning up hours before kickoff. The ground itself just looks like something out of Chernobyl, the atmosphere is shocking most of the time. And the fact the players walk out the tunnel under the away fans is embarrassing, probably feels like an away game most of the time.
After 40 years a season ticket holder I’m sure they’ll employ whoever they see fit and to be honest I’m beyond caring.
It's not that bad. Just go down under railway bridge and up past Gala. Then you can go over hill or past Mount and call for a pint. Can't see what the fuss is about.
Tbf the telly is always working at the end of the ponty I go in I never bother with food or drink but the toilet standard is fine. The scoreboard has annoyed me though this season, just buy a new one if it's getting so unreliable!
