ECKERT TO LEAVE OAKWELL Club News Barnsley FC can confirm that Tonda Eckert has departed his position at Oakwell. Continue reading on the official site...
Good decision. I expect us to announce Laumann leaving in the next few days so whoever the new man is who they are probably close to appointing can bring in his own guys. I reckon early next week we will hear of an appointment and whoever that person is has made it clear he wants to be able to bring in his own staff unlike Schopp who wasn't allowed.
You would hope the new gaffer would be in place and signed before anything else is announced. Would be just classic if we got rid of coaching staff and new bloke decided not to take it after all.
It also points to it being a domestic appointment... Unless we've managed to snag a pretty high profile coaching team...
I'd guess the new guy (or girl) will be bring their own backroom team and Jo L will be the continuity coach - at least in the short term - till the end of the season?
Hopefully and announcement today/tomorrow anyway. Then we can remove that item from the list of 17 that we're worried/upset about.
The odd thing about this is the timing. Departures of old staff usually follow appointments of new ones, so the natural assumption is that we've got the new coach, and backroom staff, lined up. If so, why can't they announce it yet? Hopefully its not a work permit complication that isn't yet resolved, as the timing of that is out of our control. The announcements to follow in "due course" is tantalisingly vague. It could mean later today, and they're perhaps simply waiting for someone to get here from abroad, or could be ages away if there's a permit issue awaiting a response. Announcing Eckert's departure suggests its of the more imminent variety, which I suppose is encouraging. However, I'll start to feel a bit nervous about things if we haven't announced a new coach by Monday, given the signals this is sending. Not too bothered about Eckert's departure. He brought the continuity from Struber through Ismael, but I'm not seeing any obvious benefits of it in our performances this season. Doug O'Kane summed it up well yesterday. We've stuck with Ismael's 3-4-3 formation, but without the discipline he applied to it, under 2 subsequent coaches, so having coaches who were here under Ismael in the backroom isn't giving us the continuity you'd expect.
I suppose it's important for someone to be able to pass on the information regarding individual players, any little cliques. I'm also sure I read that Laumann said he wanted to stay at Barnsley long term in whatever capacity, so perhaps it suits both him, the club and the new coach.

Well some have been pressing for a female head coach so why not Beth? She's done everything else an way she marshals that car park she'd soon get defence sorted.
