The government on Thursday will confirm the cancellation of HS2 from Birmingham to Leeds and the cancellation of Northern Powerhouse Rail (HS3). Another broken election promise from the government. I could go onto a hypercritical rant at Yorkshire people who for 12 years have voted for a Conservative party, who don't give a crap about you and never will. Well done on helping my children and grandchildren.
Saw this earlier, was going to start a thread about it but got partway through typing it up and nearly lost the will to live so I stopped. Anyone guilty of putting an X next to a Tory candidate should hang their head in shame.
It almost doesn’t matter any more just what promises this government breaks. I’ll wager they still get re-elected next time around. The media throws that much muck at the Labour Party that enough of it sticks to make them unelectable. The party itself doesn’t exactly help though….
I thought it was over a billion already spent on this leg. Should never have got this far imo. We don't need to save a few minutes to London and they could create extra capacity simply by providing the north with the same service that London gets. We need to be able to get from Sheffield to Manchester, Barnsley to Leeds etc quicker and with more capacity. We don't need to get to London
That won’t happen either. It will be presented as some sort of sweetener, as if the north should accept an either/or scenario, but they will ultimately go back on it.
They should look at improving the existing train services as Penistone Line is horrible. They spent money making station platforms longer but trains are still only two carriages not three, resulting in packed trains when you'd rather not be on one. The other week the Huddersfield train stopped at Stocksmoor due to problems between Barnsley and Penistone when they could have gone another two stops. Last week they cancelled the one train a hour at peak time because of lack of drivers instead of say cancelling the quieter train from a hour before to save the busier train from cancellation. My MP Mark Eastwood is working on two trains a hour when Northern Rail cannot cope with one.
I suspect Barnsley won't even feature in the new plans, couple of 2 carriage trains an hour to Sheffield and Leeds and the odd one to Huddersfield and Nottingham is all we're good for. Some villages are better served than our town
They need to start using the class 57's and recondition some mk 2's and mk 4's on peak time services. Run the 158's doubled up too. The 158's are still better than the crap they've brought in. I caught a train that was late the other day because the guard couldn't work the doors.
I got quite heated with a train conductor the other week as it took about five weeks to get the ticket machine on the platform to work. Asked for a ticket on the train and got asked where my promise to pay was. Said the ticket machine is broke and has been for weeks. But you need a promise to pay he said. Absolute stupid idiot. Then you have conductors who when the train is reaching a station say they will be back in one minute and never return instead dealing with cheaper tickets from those who have only just got on.
Barnsley didn't feature in the plans that are 'cancelled', the line went from Toton in Nottinghamshire right upto Leeds without a high speed stop, the closest would have been to battle in to Sheffield City Centre and then take a non high speed spur.
I heard on the the radio that they’re defunding BTEC qualifications as well. Brilliant, well done you Tory voters
Woah, woah, I'm not having that. Are you telling me that the tory lovely person's are reneging on a promise? Shame on you sir.
Not sure how HS2 would have benefitted cross country links across the North - badly let down for years
Can someone riddle me this.. Where are all these tory voters on this board? I'm genuinely perplexed. Is it folklore or are they hiding in plain sight? Every anti-Tory post is met - rightly - with a great big echo chamber of agreement. I literally know one person who by his own admission voted Tory, and he said he never would again. It's confusing, as these type of posts are right to be angry, but they also have a degree of passive-aggression, like they are aimed at more than one? (To confirm: like many on here, I've never and will never vote Tory).
