Obviously - I mean it’s not at all racist to believe that an entire race of people aren’t good at something.

Was anyone named in the report?
Traditionally it was more that cricket was a more popular sport but several generations later you would think there would be more playing football as its our national obsession.

The BBC don't take allegations like this lightly. I think Michael will be having a Danny Baker-esque Patreon podcast career from here on in.

You’d have to look at analysis of Asian kids playing football recreationally. My guess is that it’s quite popular as recreational sport in the Asian community.
So why would they not start to appear in the competitive game?

The stats for cricket btw are that 30% of all kids playing cricket recreationally are from a East Asian heritage. And that becomes less than 5% of all pro’s. But as someone said earlier - it’s probably just cos they’re crap.

Glad that Adil Rashid has finally spoken out. People on social media are still sticking up for Vaughan saying stuff like it's Asians all saying it. I would love that to be put right with a couple of white Yorkshire players saying they heard it, to shut the trolls up.

I think the majority of counties will have stories come out in the coming months......

You'd think that will be the end of Vaughan in a professional capacity. Well done to Rashid for speaking up and we should all respect his privacy too.

I very much hope so. I admired Vaughan hugely as a player and moreso as a captain, but this is just grim and he certainly shouldn't be paid by broadcasters to give his views now that these allegations, supported by multiple people, are in the public domain.

Hopefully this becomes a broader topic and a few more racists are driven from positions of power and influence.

It's mad when you take a step back and look at the big picture. The MCC are hardly known for being a progressive institution, how has it taken this long for it all to come out?

I think it's just going to keep going and going.

Has anyone thought that Vaughan's words could've be taken out of context? 'There's getting too many of you lot, we'll have to do something about it' could have been said in jest. You hear similar in other walks of life about different groups of people. Things always look worse in print. It's the same when we send text or email messages. Sometimes reading them back they look a lot different to how they were meant.

I think if it was out of context for that person yes, but if he'd made other comments along those lines then no plus why not own it rather than try to cover everything up?

Can you give an example where that isn’t racist?

    Cos I’m struggling.

I can. If it were a group of friends if different races who were so close as a group and totally confident of a total lack of racism inherent in any member of it then I can see it being used as a joke in which one person adopted a comedic stance that the others all knew was false.
I think it's highly unlikely these days given the possibility of it being repeated outside the group but I can see how it could be used without being racist.
That being said, I doubt the Vaughan instance would fit that context.
    Edited for clarity.

This is the same guy that tweeted that there were too many foreigners in London and he'd have to learn a new language. He does have form.

Because he didn't want to be labelled a troublemaker and have his career snuffed out by those in authority would be my guess.

Where are all the black managers? Pro football has been 20-40% black for 30 years. I'll tell you where they are, not getting the chance, and no one would say the owners/chairmen are racist, but it does seem highly suspicious to me.
