Can’t say I am overwhelmed either but he has to be better than Schopp and hopefully Morais. Will be delighted if he turns out anything like Stendell or Ishmael. Time will tell
Don’t know why everyone ignores Strubers achievements, we need a Struber appointment. Get “the boys” on side and have a great escape. Stendel couldn’t manage it, and Ismael didn’t need to.
But if anything that shows that he must have a good mind for management, given that the game is filled with cronyism/the old boys network and the idea that if you were a good player you'll make a good manager. It must be really ******* tough to bream into football management as someone who has never played at the top level.
That's given me a right idea. Appoint a new manager every month and hopefully get said bounce on each occasion. We might get at least 7 more wins between now and the end of the season.
I hope the new head coach and trainer do a fantastic job and we finish mid table. One thing is puzzling me is do they speak english? If not communication is gonna be a problem.
Just my opinion but this appointment feels like its more to do with the boards preference for profitable player sales than it is to do with saving our championship status. Hope I'm wrong and we stay up whether that's by design or an happy accident.
Uninspired, but not unsurprised. I’ll give him the same chance as any other new manager though, and obviously I hope he proves any doubters wrong. Feels like a big gamble for me however, given the Schopp disaster. His remit has to be keeping us up IMO. If he doesn’t, it’s likely I’ll personally consider it another failed appointment.
More than that, it's consistent with the fact that profit on coaching appointments is currently a significant element of our operating model. If he's successful, they'll cash in on the buyout clause and we'll repeat the appointment cycle yet again. Whatever length of contract we appoint him on, there's zero chance he reaches the end of it still in the role. The only question is whether the reason will be failure (Schopp, Morais), success (Ismael, Struber) or disillusionment (Stendel, and also Struber). A more realistic target is whether he makes it to 12 months in the role.
Sad to admit it but just had a look at all the matches for formations used in his three seasons at IFK Gothenburg. He arrived there from his previous club (which he'd just kept up against the odds btw) as a 3-4-3 zealot and that predominated in his first season at IFK. The second season he converted to a consistent use of 4-2-3-1. The third season which included both a Swedish Cup Final win and a 10 game league winless streak he seems to have used just about any and every different formation 3-5-2, 5-3-2, 5-4-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1 and 4-4-2. It might not have worked but at least it's an improvement on Schopp doing the same thing time and again and expecting a different outcome.
Yes, but not the first Iranian at Oakwell. We had a midfielder on loan from Fulham a few seasons back, can't remember his name though
