Bingo. Every single post basically says "but Rafiq did this" or "I've heard Rafiq said this". As has been said a million times, Azeem Rafiq is no Angel. But that does not matter a jot and is irrelevant.
I am not anti Rafiq. The link was/is relevant. I am not in any way trying to discredit him. Yorkshire ccc's treatment of Azeem Rafiq has been disgraceful.
You are correct and i am in the wrong. I know he isnt perfect but that doesn't justify an initial comment i made earlier in this thread that had no relevance to being the victim of racism and racism has no place in any walk of life. I apologise.
And a final comment from me. When i posted on here much earlier in this thread saying "I'd heard some stuff" and "hes no angel " it was the day after my mums funeral and was from a conversation i had with someone at the wake who had worked with Rafiq at Barnsley cc. I was not in a good head space and should have been no where near any social media platform. My comments are totally irrelevant to anyone being on the receiving end of racism and bullying. I should not have posted those comments. I wish to apologise to anyone who has been offended by those postings and also to Azeem Rafiq and his family.
TBH I don't know what he actually said so not defending him , but I do think the older generation is 'a thing'. I grew up in a generation where calling 'a spade a spade' had more than one meaning and calling in at the P*** shop was a commonly used expression. Now I and many more evolved but it took some a while and depending on how long after the seventies some of these comments were made , I can see how some folk slipped back a bit. For example some of the comments attributed to say early eighties I can see how some would just go along with the pack mentality even if they were uncomfortable. Not saying its excusable just saying I can see how some of the comments happened
Remember our old mate Roger Pugh? He of Azeem "reaping what he sows" fame - see article below: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fi...-disrespectful-and-difficult-8787491.html/amp Well Roger was proposed as Head of the Yorskhire Premier Cricket League after the current incumbent stepped down at the end of the season - proposed by none other than Barnsley CC. The league AGM was last night, so I'm unsure as to whether Roger "I'm not surprised these allegations came from him" Pugh was elected. We await with baited breath.
Clearly things at YCC never really improved after Brian Close's era. Time to clear out the racists and educate the ones left that "banter" with racist overtones is simply not acceptable. Root may just about get away with it after what Rafiq said yesterday, but his halo is not shining quite so brightly any more. A sad day indeed.
So we have a Prime Minister who called Muslim women in Burkha's walking letterboxes and has historically used derogatory language to describe other minority groups. A Prime Minster who was elected by our great shining beacon of democracy, and is constantly backed up and enabled by the media and certain sections of the press. The same media and press acting as judge and jury that are lambasting and shaming YCCC. It sums up all that is wrong and rotten to the core in this country. The positive thing to come out of all this is that the Hierarchy at YCCC (North Yorkshire Mafia) have been exposed for what they are and have been for years. In 10 years time I would guess YCCC will be a far better place for aspiring young cricketers of all backgrounds and will reap the rewards in terms of success on the field of play. And all this thanks to a lad from Barnsley!
Root claims he has never seen anything of a racist nature in his time at Yorkshire. Rafiq commented that he found this disappointing as he believed Root was in attendance when some of the racist incidents occurred and racial slurs were made.
