Just outside, very easy to grow, though this year was a bit poor with it being wetter and cooler. We got a decent crop but they didn’t redden. Cucumbers and tomatoes pretty much all failed too.

You can start things off in a greenhouse/cold frame or just under a glass cloche. We’ve not got the room, so the in-laws start them and when they are about 8-9 inches high we take them and bung them in the sunniest border (in their pot).

Our tomatoes were a fail this year too, we got a few cucumbers; strawbs and raspberries did well, chili's were rampant but I grow them on a window ledge. Herbs all went nuts though this year, drowning in chives, thyme, rosemary and sage.

Same here, though parsley struggled a bit. We tend to get rosemary from the wider Dulwich estate… in other words we take a few sprigs as needed from gardens where it overhangs into the public realm ;-)
