Is this the same bfc who allegedly blocked the employment of people with learning difficulties this summer?
Not heard this, also if they were blocked was it simply because of their learning difficulties? Would like to know the full and proper story of this before passing opinion
If this is true its disgusting, if the potential new recruits don't need supervision or a carer then H&S can't be used. The club and Doyles would just need the relevant insurance policies in place.
Whooooaaa! The job withdrawal was nothing to do with Khaled as far as I know. I think it was before he arrived? The situation was that some of our folks were trained. They were offered the support of a Job Coach on their first day only, for reassurance (by the council / employment agency they were linked to). At this point they were told that if they couldn't operate without the Job Coach they couldn't have the Job. The people concerned probably didn't even need the Job Coach, and had they known wouldn't have bothered with it.
Sounds strange. Was this a misunderstanding from someone at the club? I would like to hear both sides of the story on this, as it seems strange. As I can’t see any real reason why it wouldn’t be allowed. Unless Covid restrictions made extra support staff a non-starter. I’m not doubting anyone here, just that I can’t see why the club would turn down this great initiative. Doyle’s should be applauded for it if that’s the case.
The reason I was given was “Health and safety trumps everything”. I think there was a feeling that if they needed support, they weren’t ready. This all happened just before the who West Stand furore kicked off. My thought is that there has been some major review of Health / Safety procedures and whoever was in charge at that time didn’t want to take any additional risks. I know the Security / Stewarding contract was put up for tender at the 11th hour - causing last minute recruitment issues for Doyles - who were re-hired. I can only guess as above at what happened from the Club’s side. However in the whole process, Doyles were brilliant - went over and above to try and support our participants into work. It’s a real shame it didn’t happen. The individuals concerned have now been taken on elsewhere.
I read about this before it was uploaded to the BBS (I thought Newsbot was usually the first on the scene?). What a lovely initiative by the club. There has been a lot of club-bashing recently (some of it justified), but some things are deserving of praise on their own merit and this is one. There are reasons to be proud of our club, and there are good people behind the scenes. The first football club in the UK to commit to supporting people with speech, language and communication disabilities - well done BFC
Sounds like it was a great plan, and fair play to Doyle’s for their support. I can only imagine the club had their hands tied with it - I can see no other reason. H&S is crazy at the moment, as you know, and sometimes folk are too risk-adverse to make the correct decision. I genuinely don’t feel anyone at the club would have made this choice flippantly, other than they had to stick to what their remit stated. Regardless, it’s still great to see they’ve been employed elsewhere though. Sounds like a good scheme you’ve got running.
