It's just had £75 million in rail investment (to take you from Parkgate shopping centre to Meadowhall shopping centre.
I asked work to change my hours to 35 but they'd only knock me down to 35.5 hours from 37.5 That was just to see George on an evening. Cost me 100 quid a month. Can't have it all ways.
HS2 to Leeds was going to destroy huge areas of countryside in the East Midlands for little or no benefit to the area, so I'm glad it's being scrapped. However, Ido have to applaud whichever bit of government is responsible for the Dartmoor line reopening, there are 2 others in the pipeline (Fleetwood and Northumberland), lines 5gat Beeching should never have closed, I hope there are more to come.
Actually, a Dearne Valley Parkway station just off Donny Road on this line would make a lot of sence for those in the east of the borough.
That's where our railway problems stemmed from. I think of all the additional services that could be re instated just by relaying spurs and junctions that have been lifted. We're not even talking about full stretches of track. Castleford Cutsyke Junction Station was closed and the line via Methley was lifted in the eighties. Now trains have to reverse in and out of Castleford. Believe it or not the initial service to Leeds Central ran from Pontefract Baghill via a loop line in Pointefract over the viaduct.
Not sure Donny needs an improved service to either Leeds or Sheffield, when it comes to trains we’re definitely the have’s. Direct trains to both those cities is quicker than driving station to station.
Maybe not Doncaster but Rotherham would benefit (1 train an hour between Leeds and Sheffield). I don't know why they closed Masbrough.
I believe Rotherham is poorly serviced by trains, but I only know from Donny, which isn’t too bad, so if you’re in Rotherham and you want to go to Donny or Sheffield you’re fine, but it looks like anywhere else is a nightmare
Would it work out any different cost wise just for a taxi. Rather than the million changes you have to jump through/ make? That's gotta cost a few quid using all those individual services. Or even a taxi part way to minimise changes maybe
It costs me £234 a month. I buy a travelmaster for South Yorkshire and a M Card for West Yorkshire. The biggest draw back is I can't use them on express services. Only the trains that stop at the boundary stations. Moorthorpe, South Elmsall and Darton. I don't like admitting it but I take my life in my hands using the Nottingham fast train. It's o.k travelling from Meadowhall because I can use my travelmaster and once the guard has scanned it they leave you alone. Going the other way from Wakefield Kirkgate if the guard scanned by M Card it would be invalid and I'd have to pay from Barnsley to Wakefield. That's what I meant when I said "jobsworth guard". I've played dumb in the past. I know they're only doing their job. I can't use it on LNER or Cross Country either.
My pensioner friend has just been stung for a 5k reduction in house price (buyers put in claim) due to HS2 going near….. it’s now not. It’s been a joke from start to finish, with a lot of people getting very rich from doing very little.
