Have you tried catching the 17:46 from Baghill to Rotherham or Sheffield (whichever is easier) - It might set off an hour later but gets you home at the same time (Rotherham at 18:18 or Meadowhall at 18:24). So you could work extra time each day and get paid more money...

A very unreliable service. I used to use it all the time before we had George and wasn't bothered what time I got in. In fact I didn't mind the 16:30 finishes until things got a bit strained between me and Laura over me not seeing George on an evening.

I spoke to a woman yesterday who had just moved on to the Shimmer estate in Mexborough when the route changed in 2016, her pattern of house was £188k, Hs2 offered her £156k plus 10 % compensation, obviously she rejected the offer but they carried on putting pressure on and two years later she accepted an offer of £162k plus 10% and payment of all legal fees. By 2020 they hadn't paid her the compo and legal fees, she kicked off and Hs2 said it would speed things up if they dealt with compo and legal fees separately...they paid the compo and 18 months down the line they're refusing to pay the legal fees....bast***s.

I wish they would work on the Penistone line. It shouldn't take 50 minutes between Huddersfield and Barnsley. The approx 4 minute gaps between stations needs slashing in half.

Is it easier for you to catch the X10 bus from behind the market I think it’s around the hour and go into Barnsley bus station then catch train to Sheffield.

Sounds awful. No chance of a transfer to somewhere with better links to home?

Its even more of a disgrace when you go down south and travel on state-of-the-art trains and drive on endless dual carriage ways and by-passes.

But that stuff needs sorting out anyway. And the new tracks should be added to improve the quality. Yet, we'll be told that it has to be either / or, when services in the north have been neglected for decades, and need extra investment to make them fit for purpose.

All the improvements of existing lines will only come out of existing budgets from other projects anyway.

It's been as good as cancelled. Due to driver shortages there are only two trips a day.

Not sure if anyone remembers, but before Covid Northern promised all sorts (Northern Connect??), so we'd have trolley service etc on the Lincoln or Nottingham service and lots of service improvements. Then they had their timetable fiasco (2018?) and it got put on hold. In those days and as far back as I remember, Barnsley had 4 trains an hour in the day in each direction. Then they had massive driver shortages and then covid hit and we're slowly getting back to normal. Except we're not, we've only got 3 trains an hour now to Sheffield as the Sheffield - Barnsley - Leeds express that doesn't go to Nottingham doesn't run any more. This is particularly annoying when you live in Sheffield.

It hit me the other day when Hull fans were being an nuisance in the station that we used to have a line from here to Hull and it should be re-introduced. I'm not particularly wanting to go to Hull, but the connection is possible and if it helps people get out of the car, why aren't we doing it? Even if cars are green and provided absolutely no pollution, we'd be gridlock so we need a better transport infrastructure.

No. It doesn't work like that at NHS. You have to apply for vacancies on NHS jobs like all the other applicants. I've lost out on jobs at Sheffield and Rotherham because they've gone in house too. Every department also has a budget. I'm top end of band 2. So I earn more than a bottom end band 2. My pays protected so if Rotherham want a receptionist on band 2 but haven't the budget to pay me just short of band 3 I won't get the job. I applied for a vacancy at Rotherham Hospital Lloyds pharmacy and the interviewer didn't take me seriously that I'd take their wages. I explained about travel costs to her but she must have thought I was p1ssing up her back.

It did. The Courthouse Station used the Hull and Barnsley line.

At the risk of going all 4 Yorkshiremen
Before I worked from home my office was in a small village a few miles outside Basingstoke
The village was served by one bus a day Not one in each direction how stupid is that. So I could only use public transport to get there one day and leave the next.
In practice I could walk to farnham station 1.5 miles get a train to Woking. A train to Hook a bus to old Basing then walk down a footpath free country lane for a further 1.5 miles. So with 3 miles of walking 2 trains and a bus. Or around 3 hours

Or I could drive the 15 miles in about 25 mins.

Denton station in Manchester has two services per week - both on a Saturday - and can count the number of annual passengers in 2 figures... Until 2018 it only had 1 service per week!
