Someone made a (pretty horrible) mistake a few years ago so it’s ok to subject that person to racist abuse to within an inch of his life apparently. Well done BBS. True colours etc…….
Right, thats a phrase I've heard used all my adult life, probably classed as anti-semitic after all the political fall out over the last few years but falls into insignificance at the side of pouring red wine down a 15 year old muslims throat.
I know people in cricket circles and he’s a bad reputation as a person, believe me. Glad this has come out.
Well it definitely is anti semitic but 2 wrongs don't make a right so to my mind it's neither here nor there when it comes to Yorkshire CCC.
What has he done though? I'm fed up with all this" he had a bad reputation " and no actual examples behind it. Why will no one come out with it?
Ah yes, because if this past few months have demonstrated anything, it's that "people in cricket circles" have fair and reasonable views when it comes to Azeem Rafiq...
Nothing specific, just a general arrogant attitude that made him pretty unpopular. We’ve all worked with the sort, surely?
That’s not right though is it? He was after acknowledgment and change, not sackings or making it personal. He’s said in relation to the abuse he suffered that everyone deserves a second chance. Apologise, make a change to behaviour and move on. This in respect of Matthew Hoggard who did apologise. He’s done a good job, being a public whistle blower means all the dirty underwear is on show. If getting pissed and making an anti-Semitic comment is all that’s on show then I will not throw any stones.
Yes, but was that a protective mechanism given the situation at the club? Or are you suggesting he bullied and belittled other cricketers? Regardless, there was undoubtedly a racist undercurrent at the club and this is what needs to be sorted out.
Stick that "arrogance" in Joe Root and suddenly it will turn into "confidence", "an illustration of his competitive spirit" or "single minded determination".
So basically YCCC is institutionally racist and rotten to the core. Rafiq is possibly an anti Semitic nob. In the big scheme Rafiq might be a nasty piece of work on an individual level ( dunno one way or other) but its YCCC that is the bigger, nastier piece of work. It's the big picture here.
Let's be honest I'm sure most people have at some point made a ill judged comment in their lives. Social media just saves it for all to see. Once again I'm astonished he hasn't deleted his Twitter and Amy other social media accounts once things got into the national press. People will go back looking for a comment to hang you with. Lots of clichés we could use here. Let he who is without sin? Two wrongs? He's apologised and owned what he said. It's nowhere near the level of what it sounds like players have had to endure and Yorkshire CCC
The J word was always used when I was a kid when you felt robbed of something. I never saw it written down though, or thought about the spelling of it, so it was only recently that I realised who it was actually referring to. Slow on the uptake, I know!
Right from that start nobody has tried to claim that Rafiq isn't a bit of a tool - I've known him for about 15 years having played against him a fair few times. But that doesn't mean that he hasn't been treated horrifically himself, with stories that have been corrobated by Rashid, Hoggard, Brooks and Naveed. Hoggard has literally confirmed that he called him an "elephant washer" and made him change by the toilets. Hoggard said that. And Hoggard is white - so the knuckle draggers on here ought to believe him. Nobody has said Rafiq is perfect - of course he isn't. But what he's been through is horrific. His upbringing, his childhood and his career. This isn't the "gotcha" moment that the racists think it is.
