Never said anyone on here was labelling him a hero did I? I meant people on Twitter & Facebook etc.

I absolutely agree. YCCC have said serious questions to answer.

I’d rather let this thread die a death to be honest but I have deleted a post earlier that included swearing and name calling.

Some of the racism and victim blaming on here made me angry. I have seen at first hand this type of behaviour pretty much ruin someone’s life so it hits me hard, even though it was some time ago.

I will continue to question what I perceive as racism, on here and in the real world, and make no apology for that! However I will try and do it more constructively as name calling and swearing won’t win hearts and minds.

Yeah, if I was opening a chippy in Barnsley town centre my first thought in promoting it would also be to make allegations of endemic racism against a globally-known cultural institution and hit the national headlines.

Complimentary battered sausage for journos from Newsnight and Observer (choice of peas or gravy).

10% off vouchers handed out down Houses of Parliament.

Times have moved on from a half page spread int Chronicle.

Inevitably, and uniquely applied to this form of racism- a white, gentile t'owd man feels he is eminently qualified to declare what does or doesn't constitute antisemitism.

And yet there it is, all over the BBC, the sports sites on Instagram, the internet in general. Everywhere in fact. But it wasn't on Look North so it's one rule for us and one rule for them.
I'm assuming you're adopting an us and them attitude?

Assume away.....its a question about who us making the decisions on what is frontline news and is there a balanced approach. fairness of the representation of reporting of any story...BTW the main 6pm BBC didn't lead with it either (which I said) bt ya passed on that and went straight for look north as the main representation.

Just have a look around at the media today. Have a look at Sky, BBC, Wisden's feeds, other cricket feeds, other news sites. It's even on The42 which is the main Irish sports site and they don't even like cricket that much.
You'll find loads of coverage and I guarantee that wherever there's a comments section there's idiots making comments like "people in glass houses", "shoe's on the other foot" etc. Those people are either so thick they're incapable of grasping the actual point of all this or they really don't want to acknowledge that there's an issue with racism in cricket or, I suspect, in general.
I'll assume away. If you don't want people to assume stop making comments that lead to those quite natural assumptions.

Think someone should look into some of the things he used to say to the younger lads when he was at Barnsley Cricket Club. Some may see him in a different light, made some young lads life a misery especially when one of them spoke up about it and was made to look like he was to blame..

I won't defend what he said. It was disgraceful and wrong. But Ballance, Vaughan, Bresnan, Gale, plus a load of the other Yorkshire players, board members, and staff could learn a great deal from how Azeem responded to this.

As he said numerous times during the enquiry, all he really wanted was for people to acknowledge what they did and apologise.

Two wrongs don't make a right though. Somebody behaving like a dick isn't suddenly fair game, as plenty on here are clearly insinuating.

    Fair enough.
Does that change what Yorkshire CCC did?

Do you mind elaborating on this? There'll never be a better time to bring all cricket's issues to the forefront and get them sorted out once and for all. No need for whataboutism.

Not at all no it's wrong on all accounts, defo not disputing that.

What it does do is throw his version of events into questionable territory. When things like the Jew comment pop up and then what I mentioned about Barnsley Cricket Club. He makes out like he has constantly been the innocent victim, whereas he has quite obviously dished it out n the past. Again things said to him aren't fair game, but it should certainly be put to him that he also needs to acknowledge the impact of his words. He ended up with a nice little financial settlement from YCC, did the young lads from Barnsley or would they if they spoke out. I doubt it.

Either way in any form it's wrong.

If he's a bad lot he should definitely be exposed as such. There's too much smoke for there not to be a bit of a fire. I was, however, keeping my powder dry until it was proven that he was lying about what he went through. As time goes on the likelihood of that is almost non existent and the evidence supporting his claims is pretty weighty.
I have no crusade to hold him up as a hero or a role model. All I want is the truth and the people who allowed the sort of atmosphere that reigned at YCCC and other counties to be held to account and removed so that the club and the game can move forward.

For full disclosure here, are you suggesting that Rafiq sending a text message making an inappropriate/racist comment at 19, not actually aimed at one person in particular or in anyway aggressive, is the same as people regularly for years making racist comments directly at him?

Sad to see so many people now suggesting this is six of one and half a dozen of the other.
