Super excited for tonight. It's going to be interesting who plays and in what formation. The season starts tonight (again).

The only player who is anywhere near to Mowatt is Styles. I would play him in the middle with Gomes. Palmer and Benson on the bench. Not a fan of Odour, so Williams or Frieser on the left.

Ashley Grimes bossed the games last season against Swansea, so maybe Woodrow gets to him

I'd be tempted to go to a back four and round pegs in round holes. I get RRs views about it being too soon to switch from a 3 to a 4 at the back but think it can be done tonight if the job cards are kept simple for each player

First job - keep us in the game for as long as possible. 0-1 after 20 minutes or 0-2 at any point and it's a tall order. We have some decent forwards - 0-0 after 60 minutes and we are in with a shout

    4-4-2

    Collins
Jordan Williams - - Helik - Anderson- Ben Williams
    Brittain - Palmer - Benson? - Styles
    Woodrow - Morris

Just think two lines of four make us less vulnerable. Ben isn't everyone's cup of tea - but with a remit of just stopping what's coming down that flank and looking along the line - no attempt at playing wing back - leave no space in behind - so he's probably the best option right now.
Styles and Brittain protect the fullbacks and press wide, get wide in attack - keep the early crosses coming in - and tuck in when we attack down the opposite flank.
Benson - we need someone to be able to pick a pass
Woodrow and Morris - press the centre backs. I think a 2 up front works well, they can stay close to each other - hard to do in a three when they have to provide width - and feed off each others scraps

I don't mind changing to a back 4, I'd agree with most of your selection - maybe Sibbick for J Williams. I'd tell the CBs if you are ever running back towards your goal and there is an opposition player with the ball anywhere on the length of the pitch in you half in front of you then its a weeks wages fine.

Given they started with a flat back on Saturday, i'd suspect they'll likely do so again tonight. If we're going to change systems (yet again), then theres no time like the present. The longer we wait to implement it, the longer the time to have it working as intended. And it's not like 3-4-3 has worked for us this season.

The starting point for me has to be to try and bring some stability to that back line. I'd say we'd have to start with Helik and Andersen. Jordan Williams right back. I'd likely start Ben Williams left back, unless Vita has suddenly put a claim in over the last few days.

The rest of the line up. I'm not sure what way he might go. We've so many forwards its ridiculous, so to not play 3 seems counter productive. Yet we're often overrun in midfield and our lack of press is most telling in that area.

I'm going to say he starts with a solid 2 that sit in front of the back 4. Benson and Palmer. Both have been disappointing of late, but both have shown signs earlier on that they have ability. It's then a case of what do we do ahead of that. I think i'd be inclined to have Styles and Brittain as the wide midfield players. Just because of their energy and intensity. That leaves us with 2 spaces. I'd rest Morris and introduce him slowly. Let him build match fitness up as he goes.

As much as I think it would waste him and again, he becomes the sacrifice for the greater good, I'd play Woodrow slightly deeper. And finally I'd play Leya Iseka up top and hope his movement can trouble their backline. Woodrow can support him and join in play, pressing but also adds a body in the middle.

In terms of tactics, I'd play deeper. The squeeze and rush has been suicidal without pressure on the ball, so I think we just need to shore things up and have more bodies in that midfield area.

Hopefully tonight we get an idea of what sort of style and formation is now preferred and fingers crossed we can stop the dreadful rot on the pitch that has set in.

Surely if a kid from Munich is better than Ben Williams,I’m sorry he’s not good enough, league one at best.

Way too few words for this thread but I'm hoping that's what he does too.

Not the same Swansea team though. They’ve changed their style as much as we have so I don’t think last season will have too much influence on how we do tonight - even less so with having skipped a manager in between.

Also 4 strikers on the bench, can only imagine that's cause we are going all out, balls out pressing

Or 3-4-3 with Williams at centre back. Or 442 with Frieser on the right.
