The result and ultimately the performance weren't great, but...

I actually saw fragments of a plan last night, more than I saw under Schopp. Granted, it didn't work in the end, but had it been for a bit more discipline, I think we'd have come out of that with a point last night.

Poya had said in his first press conference that he knew Swansea were a side who liked a lot of the ball, and from what I've read (and saw for 74 minutes last night), don't do anything with their possession.

With that in mind, I think he was happy for them to knock it across the back, and then play little 1-2's in the corner, because they weren't getting anywhere with it. In 74 minutes of football, we'd limited them to just 3 shots on goal.

Then, just as the 70 minute mark passed, we seemed to become frustrated by our lack of having the ball, and the niggly fouls came out. Palmer was on the field probably 10 minutes longer than he should have been. It's the sort of game Gomez would have enjoyed, ball on the floor, looking to break down play.

Ultimately the game was lost when the switch off finally happened, after the frustration of not getting a decision from the ref.

Don't get me wrong, going up the field, we lacked any sort of idea. We often punted a clearance when there was an easy out ball, or the chance to set Frieser/Cole/Woodrow in behind. Jasper Moon was the worst culprit for that.

Having had 2 days to work with the players, and playing a side with a very defined style, I don't think we can read to much into last night's result. I think Peterborough on Saturday will be the chance for Poya to put some of his ideas into practice.

I really hope you're right but draws aren't good enough in our position so if that's his master plan I'm worried.

Before his sacking in Sweden they’d drawn something like 8 out of 9 games. Get ready.

If we're going to play like that we could save ourselves much more money by selling the entire squad and simply building a wall between the posts. The opposition could then spend the 90 minutes whacking shots against it. Most will break it down and beat us but occasionally it will remain in tact and we'll get a 0-0

That actually sounds more entertaining than what we got last night.

I can't remember if I've ever before seen a Barnsley team that had no intention of trying to win the game. A game where us scoring a goal wasn't part of the plan.

Don't give em ideas mate, cos with that sort of plan, we wouldn't even need to employ coaches and physios etc

Maybe you've uncovered the grand master plan here

Did we have a shot on goal?

Are you genuinely too simple to understand that Poya has had 2 days on the training ground and that that isn't enough time to get all his ideas across?

    I recall 2

    Freizer 1st half..... Blocked
    Woodrow 2nd half..... Blocked

I'd lost interest after that 2nd goal, so it became a daze

I'll go a step further. I think last night the players took advantage of the instructions that were given.

I didn't mean he'd set us up to play for a draw. But I think had we not lost our heads around the 70th minute mark, the least we'd have got would have been a draw.

Given he had 2 days to work with the squad, I didn't think last night was the disaster that it could have been. We definitely lacked that bit of composure in possession, and I thought Swansea's midfield were very well organised. They were on every slightly loose pass.

I think Saturday is a better opportunity to get points, and the Huddersfield game should give us a better idea of what Poya is trying to do.

I dont want us to play like that regularly but there are a couple of significant ifs
The chance Woodrow scuffed was quite similar to the one they scored - great run down the wing and cross to a striker in the 6 yard box - difference was they scored with their first shot on target and only second real chance we didnt
Second there was a clear found and yellow card ( second yellow ) on Morris which the ref bottled. Had we been given the free kick and had to play 10 men for the rest of the game we may well have got the 0-0.
The problem was we stopped and switched off expecting the foul and they scored - thats poor and no excuse

My bigger concern was our lack of ability to pass to a red shirt - the defending looked a lot better but once we got the ball we were the worst I have seen from a Barnsley side

I agree, and I think the game last night was a bit of an anomaly as Swansea have such a high amount of possession. They had 65% of the ball against Fulham.

We were dreadful in possession. The amount of misplaced passes was criminal. Again, some of that was down to how organised Swansea were too, but I agree, our lads didn't cover themselves in glory either. Brittain seemed very isolated on that right hand side, every time he was in possession. But Palmer, Benson and Styles for example, were trying too many one touch passes in moments where composure was needed.

Yes, but a very weak one straight to the keeper.

Like I've said before. I think the players put the effort in but only to hide in plain site behind a game plan. I think Poya told them to keep it tight not give owt silly away but try and break quickly when you can. They totally ignored this and hid. No effort to get forward at all.

We were holding them until our lack of fitness told. We never looked like scoring. We did resemble the boring Swedish National side though.
