Agreed. My question is ( being a believer that we have to give new coaches/managers a reasonable time to settle in) who is picking the team. Is it Conway. Because there is some crap choices like a lot of his dealings
The dealings are down to recruitment and the CEO to get the deals over the line.Conway might be many things but don't involve him in things that are nothing to do with him.
If Benson starts against Huddersfield, my questioning will start to shift to Poya. He’s seen enough of him now to form an opinion.
I know he had a loan spell with grimsby i watched today thinking how did this bloke get in grimsbys side.
When we had a post about who our most important player was a few weeks ago I voted Benson. I thought he was pretty good early season, kept us ticking over in midfield and had that extra class to play a defence splitting pass - e.g. Sibbick away at Cardiff. What's happened to him? Since his injury in the warm up the other month he's gone backwards. I'm wondering if he's still feeling the effects because that's not the player I saw in August and September.
He's got the eye for a pass like away at qpr aswell in the build up to the 2nd goal. But he's powderpuff weak as piss and goes missing were in a relegation dog fight v peterbourgh United and he goes hiding.
For me it’s not just one thing. It’s every aspect of his game. His work rate is appalling, his tackling is non existent and his quality on the ball is shocking. The real problem for me though is his work rate. We simply cannot afford to have him anywhere near the first xi. Until he starts to show that he gives a fk, he would be in the 23s. Hondermarck should be a shoe in to replace him, then I’d bring Halme back into squad. I don’t think Halme is an answer long term, but at least he’s prepared to put in a shift and let their midfielders know he’s there. Benson doesn’t even resemble a professional Championship footballer right now.
I am not saying he has anything to do with it what I am saying is that some of the team selection is like some of Conway's **** ups and if things don't improve and this coach does not work out it will be his and the CEO's fault yet again
No but I'm surely allowed to add a fact . Conway was acting CEO and clinched the deals. Maybe its time to look at things from a different angle. We're now into our 5/6 year in to data driven transfer signings.Like someone posted yesterday the signings are ok but always 12 months behind where we need them to be.When the owners took over they said they would continue the good work done by James and the recruitment team and by and by they have done.Don't forget they've also been flexi at times when sanctioning deals for players Stendel and Struber wanted. I think our problems go deeper than our Summer recruitment and it started when we lost Val.Now ever since I've watched football when a manager leaves he generally takes his staff with him that appears to be a given and I've no problem with that. Unfortunately for Barnsley when Schopp was appointed he couldn't bring his own staff in due to Brexit.Straightaway we're on the back foot.Another massive blow was losing Dane.He was bright and had settled in nicely but once again another bigger club came in for him, thats life.Losing Mowett was a blow but he wasn't our player any more. All in all I don't think the signings would have been any different even if Val had stayed.Signings aren't signed over night it takes months to identify and then get the deals done. So for me losing Val and his massive influence coupled with appointing a coach who couldn't bring his own staff in has contributed massively to where we are now. Not forgetting the players who don't appear to be half as fit as last season.
