But is his family happy? that’s how he’s going to judge success. Is it any surprise that after his initial foray in to fan engagement he’s been silent since?
I’d say not? Hardly going to keep up those levels of communication regularly, and Dane would only do a CEO update every 10-12 weeks. I’d hope he’s working round the clock with Poya on how to turn our season around and regularly speaking to the council and safety officer over the state of Oakwell
Shouldn't there have been an update from him regarding the £750k yet though? Surely he didn't just mean he was going to leave it till he next decides to do a fans forum which could be in 5 years time for all we know. And shouldn't an update have been provided regarding the detailed inspection of the wall and floor that he said was taking place? He can't be too busy to put out a statement surely
I want an update on what temporary repairs have been done to the west stand & when will the season ticket holders be allowed to return to their seats .
I'm hoping he s doing more than talking and ordering any work necessary to be done. Or if there is no work needed to announce its reopening. Were at the end of November wasn't there supposed to be two specialist assessors coming to Oakwell in November?
Possibly. Just commenting directly on the comment about non-specific/general silence. Meetings with the council have been taking place as they confirmed that at the meeting. I’d hope for some form of update on how those talks have gone in the coming weeks but it’s unlikely to be a ‘one meeting fixes everything’ situation. I hate updates for updates sakes. Speak to us when there’s something worth saying, but right now be working overtime to fix the mess we’re in.
Me too. But the club emails me a regular newsletter filled with the square root of sod all. Given the amount of disruption the West Stand issue has caused, a couple of paragraphs with the current position and planned future progress wouldn't be too much to ask - even if the wording wasn't always updated. Better that than letting displaced fans think they've been forgotten about.
That’s just marketing. I’d be upset if they weren’t doing that regularly. I’m sure an update will come. But wouldn’t you rather wait and get a conclusive one? Like I said, we know meetings have taken place, and we’re all probably wise/sensible enough to know it will take more than one meeting to resolve. I’d be disappointed if there wasn’t a pre-Christmas update on a number of recent issues, but to be fair to the CEO he has just hired a new coaching team, let a coach go, and has a transfer window opening in five weeks. Priorities right now maybe?
Totally agree, he needs to reply and hope it will come in due course, but IMO his priority should be making sure everything he does plugs into getting results on the pitch(right now).
I wouldn't miss it in the slightest, but each to their own. You're far more optimistic than I am. Fair comment. Getting us out of the drop zone has to be top priority.
Don’t know what the Council’s input would be. They have assessed the West Stand and confirmed it’s fit for purpose. If the tenant wants to improve it beyond that’s point then the responsibility lies with them.
He spoke to fans in the Legends Suite before the Swansea match said a statement on West Stand imminent, after being asked about it
Theres blatantly tension, mixed communications, and internal issues over standard maintenance. Also a lease that any smart person would be talking about now - especially given our approach to other clubs within 50 miles. I’d say the council’s input is vital. I’d also suggest they’ve been given a free ride on this particular issue due to how poor we’ve been on the pitch.
The Council offer us a peppercorn rate. We have been in breach of many areas of our lease. At some point if we leave Oakwell we will need to return it in the state we received it minus west and tear. It’s not the Councils issue despite the club trying to shift responsibility. Certainly if we wish to improve the ground the bus is on us to do so. Messages seem clear. The council assessed the west stand deemed it fit for continuing usage. The club implied something different and got pulled on it.
