Likely to set up the same regardless. It's obvious this new guy is all about being solid at the back and not giving owt away and seeing where it takes us. If we can nick a goal all well and good if we can't then we've got a draw. I just hope we can draw enough games to stay up.
We're in exactly the same position we were in 2019 under Struber. It got worse that season before it got better. There was a bit of respite in December with 2 wins and 3 draws. We hit the skids in January and were dead and buried until 3 wins on the spin in February. The situation could go either way. I'm not too concerned about being 8 points adrift in December because anybody can hit the skids. It's there being no crumbs of comfort in defeat like there were that season with the defeats to Cardiff City and Blackburn being hard done by. You could argue even though the results were the same the 2020 team were more capable than this one.
It would be a no-brainer to sign him until the end of the season, given the state of our midfield at the moment. It can only improve our creativity.
I don't really understand what anyone could have against a 'mutually beneficial' short term contract to start with and an extension option. The number of threads over the last few seasons talking about us needing experience is uncountable. If fit I for one would welcome him back. 350+ games for predominatly Championship clubs. Averages a goal every 10 games or so. Can anyone bet any of our midfielders would score 5 goal if they played a full season?!? No transfer fee involved and its not like bringing a foreign signing who might not settle here and doesn't suit our game. Well for Mr Stunt it's a no brainer. Plus Whitey would get one of those bonuses folk get for getting a new employee and he could pay for a free bar at a BBS Christmas doo. Or sommet .......
I agree with @Cunning Stunt, seems a no brainer to me to give him a short term deal or pay to play, we can surely afford what he'd accept, he cannot be any worse then what we've got currently and surely his experience is exactly what we've been missing. Set pieces, takes corners - with either foot btw! Ok, maybe he isn't match fit, but who is? Palmer still can't last more then 70 minutes and this has been the case for over a year.
It's one of those where you'd have to sign him and start him or it wouldn't be beneficial. I couldn't see the point trying to get him up to speed with cameos because we need results now.
Wouldn't have even thought about bringing him back last season but given our current midfield troubles I'd say he could be useful!
