    It seems likely that Broad is not quite fully fit so let’s reserve judgement before condemning the decision.

    Root had better hope Broad is injured because if it was tactical leaving him out when Anderson isn't available then he's in trouble. If he loses a third Ashes tour he should quit as captain and concentrate on just being a player. Three strikes and you're out. Give someone else the position. We gave the Aussies too much catching practice. Pope threw away his wicket with a silly shot when we needed to rebuild after losing Jos.

    If Broad was an opening batsmen I would have perhaps understood the clamour to have him in, but our collapse this morning has nothing to do with what bowlers we selected for this test.

    I was thinking the same. But I'm fairly certain that if Broad and Anderson would have been in the team on that pitch with the conditions I think we'd have not batted first?!?
