Booster Jabs

Rumoured to be announced Monday but saw it mentioned online that it was open already just not announced. Best to book now before the mad rush of a public announcement as the availability wasn't great.

 

I'm not sure that's totally fair, we have a vaccine centre a mile away but haven't been offered to go there, we've had to drive to Sheffield and Pontefract to get them done, my wife is a Cancer patient so is in one of the most vulnerable groups, but we put down the fact we did not need special access and can travel, which left spots available for those without transport to farer flung centres.

 

Whereas I've found the opposite.
For my actual vaccinations I had to drive quite a way as it was the only places the had available at the time. For the booster which I booked last night I could have had one 1.6miles from home, one 1.9miles away, one 2.4miles, one 3.1miles etc. I opted to select one 0.3miles from work instead.

 

There are more centres available now, especially compared to when my parents in their 80s had theirs in September. Rotherham town centre was the nearest to Wath for them.

None of my family's vaccinations for jabs one and two were made on the NHS bookings website, they were arranged locally and administered locally, without needing transport. Every booster in our family has had to be booked on the NHS website and required a means of transport.

 

Seems to me it was the luck of the draw dependant upon your GP practice. For your one and two , you were lucky to go local. For some people it was organised through their local GP by phone and others via a NHS letter. For our family for one and two it was NHS letter and the nearest option was Wakefield (8 miles approx). Boosters, just down road (10 min walk) at Priory Campus. Others local to me went to Priory Campus for all three. Its good as regards numbers completed, but we were supposed to be minimising travel during the pandemic.

 

For jabs one and two it was through the local GP by phone. I think they were too busy with flu jabs for that to happen this time. I don't know why the idea of combined jabs didn't happen. Some of them have started doing walk-ins recently.
