I honestly can't decide what decision they should have done really. I think they made the correct decision BUT as usual with the incompetent Masi it was made in completely the wrong way. You can't say lapped cars can't overtake and then change that decision. They should have released the lapped cars a lap earlier because doing it how they did it was just wrong. Verstappen is a worthy champion but Lewis was too and didn't deserve to lose in that manner.
Disgusting. That's why hardly anyone cares about F1 and it is way down the list of popular sports for UK viewing figures. Lewis walking to the world title and because some idiot crashes he loses the title through no fault of his own. The lead should be the same after the safety car that it is before the safety car. The race leader shouldn't be penalised by everyone else being allowed to close the gap. It's daylight robbery and the rule should be changed. Now I can go back to not being bothered until Lewis has a chance to win the title again next season.
Don't be daft. Nobody cheated. Both teams could pit, one did, one didn't. It's happened in both ways before. Michael Masi should go though
Whoever you wanted to win.. this was a shambles. making the rules up as you go along. Masi is a disgrace and has to go. The rules state the lapped cars must unlap themslves it was only overruled so the TV media got their race to the end they wanted. Otherwise the race would have finished on the safety car with Hamilton the winner.
Agree it was the right decision made the wrong way. They should have all been allowed to unlap not just 5.
The rules don't state that lapped cars must unlap themselves at all. What was it you said earlier about knowing the regs?
Rule change I would make, and I've always thought this, would be that any laps spent behind the safety car has to be added to the length of the grand Prix. That would have to be in conjunction with the reintroduction of refueling though
i don't get it ,i never have. You can be half a lap behind , a virtual/safety car is deployed and then when the race is re-started your on the rear bumper of the lead car How can that be fair. Surely when the race restarts and then the race ends the timed gap before the safety car should be applied to the finish race result.
Only 5 cars allowed to unlap themselves. How can this be just or within the laws? It's either gross incompetence or something dodgy.
LH completely outdrove MV it was won with a combination of good strategy by RBR, sheer luck (SC) and help from an incompetent Masi who bent the rules.
I just heard next door shouting 'Go on Lewis' about 5 mins ago and could only think of Lewis Hamilton and from this thread I guess they were cheering him on. As I don't follow F1 at all I don't understand the posts higher up. Can anyone explain what happened in really basic terms, please?
Morally and traditionally they should but I believe there's no regulation to state that. Again though it was all down to Masi being incompetent. If he'd made that call even half a lap earlier they'd have all scampered off (not got far but all gone)
The rules state all lapped cars to unlap themselves, or not to be allowed. All of them, not just some of them.
