He was worth more to us that £2m. That's why you would try and upgrade the contract. Whether he accepts it is another matter, but the club could've tried to get themselves in a stronger position long before WBA came calling. I might feel a bit differently if he hadn't been able to take three other members of staff with him that he'd inherited at Oakwell.
Thing is we don't know if we did or not.It could have been a set in stone clause and theres nothing saying he could have been a flop.
We don't know, but it does seem doubtful that we did. But we can't keep going in this cycle of needing to find a new coach every year, knowing if the new on is any good, he'll be gone within a year.
Perhaps it’s just timing? Personally I don’t think he had done enough for long enough to be offered a new contract by January. Summer absolutely but perhaps it was too late then
