I don't agree with that style of management in any area of work but credit to Luke for having the resilience to go out there after that, in light of what we know about his mental health.
At least you know where you are when your boss is a ball breaker. Worst bosses for me are those that will let you finish early for something trivial then say no when you're house is falling down. I've encountered a few of those in my time.
I get that but sometimes bosses like this can lead someone to massively break down in their mental health, sometimes to the point where they attempt to harm themselves. It is a dangerous game playing with someone like that, especially when you know they are vulnerable.
The worst boss I had let me work between 5 and 10 hours overtime every week- unpaid. Then he pulled me in and tore a strip off me for keaving early on the Thursday before Good Friday one year. I said I'd be putting in an Overtime claim for 200 hours (about 50% of the overtime in the last 12 months) and getting HIS boss to sign the form. He backed down, but I still put the overtime claim in to his boss and I went to see him in person to explain why. My boss then got a strip tore off and told to apologise to me. Don't fùcking mess me about.....
I always find the heavy handed bosses are the easiest to bring down. They leave themselves wide open and as they don't have the respect of their staff, workers don't feel any kind of loyality towards them so when pushed far enough they have no problem in turning the tables. Sometimes I've actually enjoyed working under horrible bosses for exactly that reason. It's almost like sport.
According to Barton (lol), Bristol Rovers repeatedly called our club to ask us to take him back before the end of the summer transfer window but Barton claims we didn't answer the call. Apparently Thomas walked off the training ground twice after not being picked and his conduct was called into question, hence the calls to us to take him back. I don't take Barton at his word for anything, but if it's true that they were calling us to take him back and we didn't answer because we didn't want to take him back, then we can't really say it's all Bristol Rovers' fault or he should come back here because we'll take care of him, because it's been made out that we didn't want him. The problem is it's been made out that way by Joey Barton. I guess we will never know the truth. One flaw in Barton's account is the line that they kept calling and calling and we didn't pick up the phone - it led me to thinking, don't they do email? Besides all this, as Titus alluded to it's very dangerous territory to call someone's mental health out in public, and to say he's not 'wired in' is disgusting. But it.s Joey Barton so do we expect any less?
The worst part is, Joey was probably fully aware of his mental health situation before his disgusting comments. He's an absolute scumbag.
^^^^^^^^ Some middle management are far worse than their superiors. And will always bully folk not willing to question. Love getting my teeth into those prats. Most of the decent ones will actually approach union reps re the T’s n C’s. As they haven’t the first idea.
