Strange bedfellows indeed . Ultimately we all know this isn't going to work so the next step will be " ban the unvaxed " which again we all know won't work either . With such a rebellion against Johnson I'm sure starmer will be pushing for more restrictions as a way to attack him politically . Certainly a night for the covidians to rejoice .

By taking the advice of scientists and acting in a similar way to most of the rest of the world.

Here’s a great example of why people are swimming in a sea of misinformation

Do you hold similarly strict views of say wearing a seatbelt or not smoking in pubs?

Yeah there’s a few extremists who will take that point of view while say ignoring the removal of the right to protest or the decision to give the state the ability to strip 6 million mainly black people of their citizenship but luckily most people will take a sensible approach.

If scientific opinion is that these measures save the life of 1 person I would be happy to do it. I think the passports aren’t the greatest of ideas but as JamDrop alluded to they offer freedom to those who can’t or won’t get vaccinated as well as being part of a raft of measures to mitigate.

Where the Opposition has failed is to not tie agreement to the measures into raising SSP or giving more help to struggling businesses.

    Here’s a little sober reading

Not sure if it's a positive or negative but that's me not going to Oakwell for the time being.

This is a medical procedure that we are segregating society based on the others aren't. I don't know why you're too stubborn to see that.

I think some people genuinely believe that young, healthy people who are unvaccinated are more susceptible to serious illness from Covid-19 than older people or people with serious underlying health conditions who are double or even treble vaccinated. I don't blame this misconception from the way it is reported in the media, but it is not even remotely close to being true. Someone in their 70s, for instance, fully vaccinated, is orders of magnitude more likely to be seriously ill from Covid-19 than a healthy person in their 20s or 30s. Like, thousands and thousands of times more likely. And the vast majority of people in their 70s who are fully vaccinated will not become seriously ill.

Vaccines aren't, as was claimed, doing a brilliant job of keeping the majority of us out of hospital. Our immune systems are. The vast majority of us will not be seriously ill from this infection. The vast majority do not need protecting and will not end up in hospital.

This is not an anti-vax post, get vaccinated by all means. It's an anti-misinformation post.

Do you think that wearing a seatbelt is comparable to undergoing a medical procedure? Seriously?

What if 1 person dies as a result of taking a vaccine they were coerced into having? It has to be a free choice and however people dress it up the measures just voted on are to try and force people into that choice. I don't think that's right or ethical.

My partner a nurse has to have evidence of Hepatitis vaccination to practice. Do you wanna set up some sorta protest group I mean that’s gotta be wrong right?

Obese people are denied many NHS treatments. You can’t enter numerous countries without proof of yellow fever vaccines. If someone presents to mental health services under the influence of drugs or alcohol they can’t be treated. These public health decisions happen all the time.

As I said I think where we differ and won’t agree is my bottom line is if something I can do that is free and painless saves one person from getting ill I’m more than happy to do it and would hope that everyone else would feel the same (with caveats about those who cannot for health reasons)

I do have very serious concerns about our current govt and handing them any sort of powers and understand someone like Clive Lewis taking this view

Again it still remains a choice. Society makes public health decisions all the time. I mean people can’t get pissed and drive a car can they? Doesn’t the law on drink driving discriminate against them.

On a personal level I don’t think vaccine passports are a great idea but understand If scientists are advising the Govt that they will save lives then the govt and opposition will listen to that advice and balance the risks of vaccine reaction against public health.

You seem to like equating medical treatments with driving a car. I don't think it's the best comparison. I do respect your views come from good intentions.

You ve got serious concerns about our current government , as opposed to the opposition who voted exactly the same way today ? Happened to watch kier starmers interview post vote . What a sellout . He's just Boris Johnson with a different media brand .

Genuine question, do you class doing an LFT test as undergoing a medical procedure? (Putting whether you think they are reliable or think they should be used or not to one side, they are an option for those who can’t have/don’t want a vaccine).

I think everyone so far on this thread as been in agreement that forced vaccinations shouldn’t be a thing but I may have missed something.

Well folk have got what they wanted. Mandatory vaccination for NHS staff and COVID passports.

Suppose I'll still be a conspiracy theorist when COVID passes are extended to all non-essential shops and hospitality. And then, ultimately, you'll have to show your status to go into a supermarket.

Mandatory vaccination and fines/prison for refusing to have an injection up next.

Absolutely disgusting. Respect to the 100 Tory MPs and the 8 Labour MPs who voted against it. And, as an independent, Mr Corbyn.

I'm now a second class citizen for only having 2 jabs and having recovered from a virus. Absolute disgrace. Hate this absolute shower of a political establishment.

On the subject of voting does anyone know why so many didn't vote. Dan Jarvis is listed as not voting for example.

No I don't think that's a medical procedure. However I feel like there is coercion and essentially blackmail into getting the vaccinations which for all intents and purposes makes them forced and a couple of prominent posters are definitely backing that and constantly likening the vaccine to a seatbelt.

Because it's a way to support the proposal whilst having plausible deniability. In other words they back vaccine passports but are only willing to do it in a way that they can claim to have remained impartial.
