I don’t think the issues with our attack were to do with Poya’s instructions tonight. We were just powderpuff in midfield, and when we did get into decent positions, Brittain didn’t want to use his left foot.
I think Gomes can supply that muscle if he isn't caught in two minds because of that wankspangel Benson. He needs to get him in lockers and say if you're gunna sit, sit but if you're going forward make sure you don't drag me out of position exposing Mads n' Helik to having to clear of play the ball.
I’m certainly more confident in this coach than the last fella. He’s got us organised, stopped us leaking goals, some kind of game plan and players seem to be playing for him. Unfortunately we are totally toothless up front. A striker and some creativity in midfield is desperately needed in January because as it is we are going down with hardly a whimper
I didn’t say we were brilliant/exciting/entertaining. I said I enjoyed the performance. We scrapped against a side most on here presumed would take us apart beforehand. I think that’s why so many stayed away. I didn’t hear or sense great swathes of dissatisfaction from the Barnsley fans that were there last night and a lot stayed to appreciate the effort that clearly was put in by the lads. Expectation that we are going to get anything by going toe to toe with WBA at present is unrealistic. I saw progress.
Said to a mate if we had brought Warnock in his first move would have been shore up the defence and stop the defeats...Poya is doing exactly that and we held 3rd from top to a 0-0 If he's supported by the board in January we may survive...bt not confident he'll get the backing...
Ok.. I get that and agree. But there's no excitement no atmosphere. How are you ever going to get the young uns darn to Oakwell with our football. Kids like to sing and shout, clap cheer there team.. There's absolutely non of that at Oakwell. It quite and mainly boring to be there.. There a major rethink needed, top to bottom.. to stop this club driffing into the wilderness of Scunny Oldham and Stockport..
I don’t even think the issue is ‘baby steps’. For me, at this stage, it’s about the players, regardless of their ability, showing a bit of fight, a bit of pride in the shirt. They did. I’ll take that for the moment.
So you expect us to go from bottom of the league performances to top of the league flair in the space of a couple of weeks. The likelihood is we will probably still go down but I’d prefer is to do it with a battling attitude and showing signs of some fortitude. Plenty on here keep saying we have a **** poor offensive set of players - give the manager a chance to tackle the problems one at a time.
He did Helen. He did that by introducing a style of football that Oakwell had never seen. Some liked it,some didn't, me personally I loved it.Hard working, never say die attitude,2 fingers shown to top clubs and players and mightily important to supporters winning games on a regular basis. After saying all that I think Val and his style was totally unique and other than Val I don't know another coach who implements that kind of play. So you are right Val went all attack when he came because he had a plan and a style none of the other teams could understand or counteract it.I think the only way we'd ever see that style of play again is if Val ever came back.
