Obviously 5 games is way too early to form any kind of sensible opinion, but for me it's been a very underwhelming start. The pre & post-match interviews talk about having a plan to go out to win games. So far I've seen very little evidence of that, and as it stands I think we'll struggle to get 40 points.

His plan is to draw us to safety.

20 plus 0-0 scores and we might have a glimmer of a chance.

Better than Schopp but too late to make any difference regards relegation imo .
Hope I’m proved drastically wrong and will happily eat humble pie if I am .
Think we’ll have a good end of season though .

He inherited an absolute mess. We’d lost 9 out of 10, with the exception being a Schopp out bounce. Teams would carve us open by simply hacking a ball down the channels. The few championship standard players were/are devoid of all confidence and the midfield is as lightweight a midfield as you’re ever likely to see. So he’s been given an impossible job imo. Might’ve been different if he’d come in an international break earlier.

That said, now he’s worked on defensive shape, he needs to do something to toughen up the midfield, at the moment we’re still too soft.

I’d go as far as saying our midfield is one of the worst in the top three divisions. Maybe individually they’re all better than that, or when paired with other players, but as a collective it’s just powderpuff to a level I don’t remember seeing before.

It seems he's certainly made us harder to beat but unfortunately the damage done under schopp is so severe that draws aren't enough' our ball retention and passing was poor last night and we never really threatened to score...

Agree Marlon. Except perhaps the last bit, I think it'll be better but perhaps still not 'good'.

This is absolutely the nail on the head! Our midfield is the most inept that I have seen in over 35 years of watching us !!

Benson and Gomes look like players that have had their own way against fellow under 23s, but aren’t ready for the physicality of first team football. I don’t know what’s happened to Palmer this season. He looked good at the start of the season until his inevitable tiring after an hour.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Halme in midfield when he’s fit again. I don’t particularly rate him as a midfielder, but we’re just being bullied at the moment.

We’re five players short. Can we get those in January and have half a chance?

Two more strikers, two midfielders, and a LWB (assuming we’ll play the same system)

I don’t remember seeing a worse Barnsley midfield. Takin on one side the individual players (not a lot Poya can do about that) we compound the problem by only playing the two in central midfield. Baffled.

I doubt we’d get that many players, not that can come in and make an immediate impact anyway. The two midfielders must be the priority. Even if one of them is Kane, and the other is an experienced loan. Styles, Woodrow, Morris and Iseka wouldn’t be the end of the world in the other positions you mentioned.

But if the gap to 21st extends in the next two games then the focus will probably be on outgoings.

We'll be more than 5 players short after the January sale starts. There's no money in the pot so it'll be players out before players in so we'll end up with a poorer squad before the attempt to strengthen even starts.

Out of interest, who do you think will be sold in the ‘January sales’ Personally I can see Woodrow leaving, and if he does I’d guess he’ll go to Forest as I think Steve Cooper is a fan of his and I’ve read where he is looking to bring in a striker this January. It may well be a case of 2+2 =5 but I wouldn’t be surprised as Cauley is getting unfair criticism, even abuse from some quarters. I don’t see any other of our players attracting interest at the moment.

Thats the problem when we are now signing gomes who has played in citys u23s and benson burnleys under 23s and a hand full of games on loan at grimsby. Gone are the days of signing players from league one and 2 who are young and have previously been poty at there clubs or captains. Benson could come good in a few seasons when he mans up and gomes could have a good career but too lightweight for the championship.
