Last transfer window before covid decimated the player transfer industry didn't we sell Kieffer Moore?

You're assuming twitter transfer rumours are essentially done deals. Far from it. In fact, as I've said previously, our record of holding onto players in January is quite good under the current ownership.

Woodrow will not be on WBA’s radar, in fact I reckon he’ll still be a Barnsley player come February.

The 3 I fully expect to leave are Collins (WBA), Helik, & Styles. Along with fringe players such as Frieser, Vic, & Halme, with recalls of loan players, Kane etc.

Collins won’t want to be second choice at WBA. Behind Johnstone

According to WBA fans as Cauley has only I year to go a fee of 1 million will be accepted by
Barnsley. Nowt surprises me at Barnsley Fc in the last 5years. Remember the sale of Potts to Preston one January transfer window when Daniel Stendel was trying to get us out of League 1 and we were pushing for promotion
That told me way back then what the expectations of our board were.

To be fair though his place on the wing was taken by a better player. Or certainly a more suitable player for the position. Don’t get me wrong I liked him and didn’t want him to go.

Not deliberately though. Jordan Green was signed that window & Hedges also played there before they stumbled across Brown by chance due to injury. It worked out well for the board but there was no master plan for us to sell Potts because we knew we had someone better.

Quick question. Why is having a desire for your players to be more valuable a bad thing?

Not saying I agree with them on the stance they took or implied, but it’s hardly the ‘gotcha’ some people are making out.

Keeping Helik will be key this window. He is bound to be on other clubs radars.

Combine that with bringing in a powerful forward player and a good attacking midfielder and I reckon Poya can get something going with his setup.

We seem to be working harder again as a team but just being let down in the final third where we lose possession too easily or play the wrong ball.

Nail that down and we have a good young energetic team.

The desire to achieve a greater value players isn't a bad thing if, firstly all the money gained is used to buy better players and improve the squad, sadly the 80% Muppets use the money gained to pay off their debts and buy lower standard players with a hope of improving them slightly then selling them for a small profit in 12 to 24 months if possible with no consideration of whether those players are what is required for a balanced and improved squad. Secondly the result of the meddling by Conway and the CEO in the playing style of the club in the mistaken belief that the style adopted last season was the reason they couldn't sell many assets rather than the fall out from reduced income for clubs due to Covid and without a care what damage the change they instigated would do to on field success has been nothing short of disasterous for the club.
It's not the desire thats the problem we've always been a club thats sold players it's were the monies gone and the lack of any consideration to the needs of the club when selling players or recruiting them that's the problem.

I’d be surprised at £1 million for Woodrow as I suspect Fulham will have a sizeable sell- on clause, perhaps anything between 20- 40%

Brad Potts is the only player we've sold in January of any note, with more than a year left on his deal under the current ownership.

I understand some of the criticism around selling our best players, I really do. But one thing they have got right, is holding onto our best players midway through a season. Something that their predecessor struggled to do time and time again.

Like Newcastle are going to struggle to sign top players in January despite their deep pockets, Barnsley are going to struggle to sign any players in January who aren't willing to be League One players come next season, because barring another great escape that's what they'll be. Likewise we're going to struggle to keep players that other clubs show an interest in this winter. If we get decent offers in for players in January we'd be mad not to take them. Otherwise they'll be picked off at the end of the season much more cheaply if we go down.
