Can you only claim to be a Yorkshireman/woman if you are born in Yorkshire even if your parents were born outside the county? If your parents were Yorkshire born but you were born outside the County but brought up in Yorkshire then you can't claim to be a Yorkshireman/woman - or can you?
I might be imagining this but haven't you asked this or questions extremely similar to this quite a few times over the years? If you consider Yorkshire your home then you're a Yorkshireman or woman as far as I'm concerned just like if you consider Barnsley to be your team then you're a tyke. Being a Yorkshireman or a Yorkshirewoman isn't a nationality, it's nothing official, it's just a sense of belonging and pride in your home and hometown. Don't worry, you can be a proud Welshman and also a proud Yorkshireman, we are honoured to consider you one us but don't ever feel like it means you lose any part of your heritage.
If you are born in Yorkshire then tha Yorkshire. If not, you are most welcome & if tha wants to be Yorkshire, we'll chuffin accept thi with open arms And if it's Barnsley, even more so.
Sorry. But if you're not born in Gods own county. There have to be guidelines. Folk are welcome. But would have to sign up to the Yorkshire motto. To become a member. Not fully fledged mind. That's a birth right. Motto The Yorkshireman's Motto: 'Ear all, see all, say nowt; Eat all, sup all, pay nowt; And if ivver tha does owt fer nowt – Allus do it fer thissen. God built Barnsley first btw. And made small errors. Especially when he built leeds in the wrong county.
For me if you’re born of Yorkshire folk even outside the county you are of Yorkshire. Obviously if your folks are not from Yorkshire but you are born here you are Yorkshire and should divorce your parents especially if they are from the wrong side of the Pennines. There they be monsters.
Sorry. If you were born in Yorkshire you're a Yorkshireman/woman. If you weren't you're not. Same goes for every other county, country.
County maybe but nationality is a different thing , my mother in law was born in India but is British and there’s many an Irishman born in England !!
Wasn’t the old YCCC requirement that you had to be born in Yorkshire to play for the county? Maybe they should re-introduce that rule with a view to tapping into the large ethnic minority communities and giving opportunities to local lads of all backgrounds.
That YCCC requirement saw a lot of expectant mothers from outside the county give birth in Huddersfield as the Royal Infirmary was close to the M62.
