    Regarding the van, it could hsve had HE in the registration plate number. HE was the code for Barnsley when vehicle registration wss regional, hence the eponomous THE 1.

    There are many other stories mate. Like the one where we sat in the home stand at Hillsborough when we beat them 2-0 in 1980! I'm sure the only reason we didn't get our heads kicked in was because I was only 13... Didn't stop me celebrating wildly though... :)

    Really sorry to hear this. It's always so difficult losing a parent, no matter how much the passing is expected. It's great that you are able to reminisce anout good times already and in time the pain and melancholy will subside and I'm sure when yiu think of your dad it will be warm memories of the good times.

    RIP, so sorry to here that. Sounds like a top man.

    We have a similar story football wise, but the other way round. It is a sad day, but maybe this will bring a small smile of comfort.

    For my sins I was a Leeds supporter till I was 10. My Dad took me to Elland Road on my 10th birthday. 2-2 draw with Man City Franny Lee in the City team. Next week, Dad said "I can't take you to Leeds every week, Barnsley have a team". Crewe Alexandra next week.

    Lo & behold 4 years later Allan Clarke signs for Barnsley, then Norman.

    I was at that Liverpool match, but went on a coach & only got there just before half time. Should have followed your dad.

    Sending you all the best. Barnsley may not be world beaters, but we drew with the best in Europe that day, Big Mick, Ronnie & the rest. Losing family is hard, but memories remain.

    Message sent in respect, what you said resonated with me in terms of becoming a Barnsley fan, but kind of the other way round. RIP.
