I don’t usually recommend films but “Don’t look up” on Netflix with Jennifer Lawrence and Dicaprio is well worth a watch- a real biting commentary on the state of our world.
Seconded. Watched it yesterday. Brilliant. On the other hand I found 'The power of the Dog' disappointing.
Saw it advertised but couldn't make my mind up. I'll give it a watch tonight because the cast looks good and that's two people who recommend it
Brilliant, original and insightful, but for something billed as a comedy, it left me feeling a bit depressed as it was a bit too near the mark!! As a piece of observational social comment.... they nailed it! Conspiracy theories...check.... Denial influencers ....check.... Cyber bullying....check... Fatuous obsession with 'celebrity' gossip on social media.... check.. Governments and leaders making decisions purely based on polling figures and retaining office..check...... Billionaire political party sponsor influencing and controlling politicians' decisions...check. National interests overriding common sense and profit before survival...check! Inane TV hosts posing as journalists and news commentators on daytime news channelspandering to the lowest common denominator in search of vieiwing figures...check Newspapers determining which stories to run with based on circulation and poling readers rather than what is in the public interets....check. Really enjoyed it though with a stellar cast all delivering. As an aside has Cate Blanchett had 'some work done' or was it just good make up? It took me a good few minutes before I recognised her. Agree with Scarf re 'Power of the Dog' I was somewhat disappointed and although a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch the 'pacing' was a bit off and the film overall did not, IMO, live up to the hype. The 'revelation' too, was obvious from very early on although, in fairness, I am sure it was never intended to be a surprise in a 6th sense sort of way.
I thought it was brilliant, a great analogy for the climate emergency that so many people are hell-bent on ignoring.
Didn't enjoy it personally. Yes the point it was making was a interesting one and certainly has a lot of merit. But I didn't find it entertaining at all.
This succinctly sums it up for me. I watched "Dog" the other day and I was not impressed; it seemed to wander aimlessly and then suddenly end. I was not prepared for "Don't Look Up" being satire, as I didn't read the Overview, but it (unfortunately & correctly) parodied much of today's world.
Yes very good. Streep is her usual brilliant self. Great commentary on the shallow ineptitude of American politics.
Just watched a fantastic series called Mindhunter . Watched the two seasons made and it’s up in the air whether there’ll be a third . It should be a five series production . I really hope it runs to its conclusion as it’s a really riveting watch with all the criminals based on real people if you can call some of them that .
Yeah watched it on my 3 days off over Xmas, along with........ Home Alone Home Alone 2 Venom Venom 2 The Harder They Fall Shaft (2019) Red Notice Eye For an Eye it was probably the best out of them, tho wasn't disappointed with any of them.
