I told my Mam that if we top of the league at Christmas, we'd get promoted to the Premier League. I was right, as we beat Sheff U away the Saturday before Christmas https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/league-division-1/25-december-1996/ Every game we played after that, just cemented my view that we were going up. Great times following a brilliant team
It was a fantastic occasion & I might be wrong but I think it was the day Toby showed his backside to the city fans to which one of their fans took exception to & reported the incident , it was hilarious. I actually enjoyed the 96/ 97 season more than the season in the top flight , simply because it was the realisation of the dream , every week of the season went by until the dream became reality , the emotion & ecstacy I felt has never been repeated , I will take it to my grave , fantastic
He didn’t actually show his backside, City fan threw a toilet roll at him, he picked it up, simulated wiping his backside and threw it back, hilarious just the same
Brilliant read that, I was fortunate enough that season to see the win at Maine Road and also Sheff Utd away, happy times and some memories I’ll never forget, how we need some of that togetherness at the minute!!
I remember being really nervous before this game. We had just lost at Stoke on Boxing day and I was thinking this could be the start of a bad run. I was delighted to be proved wrong though as we were really convincing in that win over city. Happy, happy days ...
It should be more memorable for all of you there. Yours truly Celebrated his 40th birthday the day before. And at half time I took 5 penalties ( towards the ponty.) And scored all 5. To tumultuous applause all around the ground. It was my greatest of pleasure to entertain you. Yoooooo reddddddds
