If i was to go out to the pub or to a party i just find it such an enforced evening to pretend you are enjoying yourself.

Or am i being a miserable grump?

Quiet night in for me and the missus.

I'm with you. I can't quite put my finger on what it is but there's always a melancholic aspect to it for me, and the suggestion that I am obliged to have a great night just makes it worse.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to be celebrating. It's like I'm missing some part of my brain that everyone else seems to have. I suppose the occasion is "Well that's the Christmas break over, back to work everyone." Hurray.

That said, NYE in Newquay is superb and the only time I've genuinely enjoyed myself on that night.

Every single boozer is rammed from the bar to the door. Takes half hour to get served every time your glass is empty. Attracts all the idiots who can’t handle their ale, so around 11pm your looking over your shoulder for someone whose had one too many looking for a fight. Everyone leaves the pubs at the same time leaving you in the taxi queue for what feels like hours at -35 oh and to top it off the taxis are triple fare so you have to get a loan out to get home.

What is not to love about New Year’s Eve?

New Year’s Day on the other hand, I love it.

New Year's is a proper non-event in our house, none of us are bothered about it. It's weird, just doesn't feel like something that needs to be marked.

For several years BC (before Covid), we have enjoyed going away over new year. The last time, 2019/20 we went to Krakow and had a bloody lovely time. That flight home on 3 Jan 2020 was the last time we were out of the country and it's amazing that it feels so long ago.

Since then, we are back to the staying in and watching Jools Holland routine - can't wait to go away again.

We were due to have 2 sets of grand kids around tomorrow but neither set can come because of covid isolation - both sets of their parents are testing positive as of today. So all the nibbles are now in the freezer. Gonna be a quiet one.

My best NYE's were back when I was a teenager in the mid 80's when our local ambulance station in South Kirkby used to put a do on for charity. Ambulances moved out, trestle tables erected, chicken and chips, DJ, bring your own booze. Those were epic nights. Could never happen now.

I dislike all the festivities , from about the turn of December I count down until the 1st of january & then breathe a huge sigh of relief , I dislike it with a passion , families being put under unnecessary pressure , cold & miserable with the shortest daylight & somehow bad news always seem to appear but when the new year arrives I begin to look forward to my favourite time of the year which is Spring , longer days & the temperatures beginning to rise plus close season arrives & the speculation for the next season begins , hope springs eternal !

Haven't been out for it since my eldest was born he's 12 in January. Usually we used to go to someone's party, can only remember being in town for it when I was a teenager.
Very little interest these days. We do normally stay up but that's because my eldest is a- a little obsessive about time and he likes to see the year change and b- he doesn't like the sound of fireworks so wants us to be up with him.
When I say we my wife often just goes to bed and leaves me and him to it.

My birthday, so I've always celebrated .
Bit of a damp squib last year for my 60th.
So this year in anticipation we have organised a staff meeting with cheese and wine.
Guess we didn't need to but hey we have an agenda now .
    Happy new year bbs folks.

for the past 10 years or so i've been having what i call my " miserable old b@st@rds bbq for one", i get a nice steak, chop, sausages, etc, spark the bbq up in the back yard and wash the epic feast down with a couple of bottles of chateau neuf du pape, brandy, and port. at midnight ( if i've made it) i shout **** off at the top of my voice to the previous horrible 12 months. i usually wake up the next morning on one of the villa depresso's floors feeling as rough as a lepers scrotum and covered in bbq sauce................ works for me

Stay in with the wife and doggies, nice meal with prawn and salmon things, few drinkies, Jools Holland (recorded in September or whenever it was) fall asleep, then go to bed.
    Same every year.

I’m not fussed about it at all. Can’t be bothered with busy pubs, trying to get taxis etc. Usually stay home. Planning to go for a walk incorporating a pub this afternoon, and come home for a meal. Not bothered one way or another about midnight, fireworks etc. And ever since i found out that the Jools
holland show is pre recorded, I’m not fussed about that either!
I’m definitely in the grumpy old sod camp!

I'm bucking the trend. Nice to look back on the old year ( like to watch the annual satirical shows recapping the year) and then looking forward to the new year, making the same resolutions as I always do!

Best to watch Jools off record the next day - then you can edit all the ***** out! (Should leave about 15 minutes!) :D

I'm not going to Outer Edge.

Staying as we're in quarantine after the missus arrived from Germany on Wednesday. If she gets her negative test result today, we'll probably be banging on door of the Mahal at 17:29.
