We might be able to play out from the back as a L1 team, as we will have better players than most, unless there is a complete fire sale. It is not a plan in the Championship, working with one of the lowest budgets to try & play like Man City, Liverpool, Barca, etc. Val worked that out. Sadly our last two coaches have not grappled with that fact. Little point being the Barca of L1, to be the whipping boys of the Championship. To some degree Norwich have the same issue between the Championship & Premier League. You need to cut your cloth. Palace stayed up for years playing fairly ugly football under Hodgson, but now had some funds to bring in Vieira & they seem to be looking like a mid table side. Too early to comment on Brentford yet. They are a decent side, but could still fall into the mire.
I am hoping that Asbaghi appointment is a change from that and is going to concentrate longer term on developing our players which in turn should be reflected in results on the pitch, playing football.
It just wasnt a long term solution to keep playing Vals style we need to develop our players and stay in business, take a step back again so we can move forward.
I’m not seeing much development at the moment , same old same old springs to mind As anyone really seen a difference between what Schopp served up compared to Asbaghi
Are you Conway in disguise? We were on the cusp of the premier league, now we are on the cusp of league one. Are Styles, Brittain, Andersen, Collins, Woodrow, etc more valuable now than they were at the end of last season? Horse ****. The market for selling players was bad in the summer due to covid, that is why we kept our players. We then made bad signings & appointments to the coaching staff.
JP I just dont agree but thats ok, the players didnt develop under Val as footballers, the type of football played by Val had a short term improvement for our players but 5 subs helped that no end. We signed players under Stendel and Struber to play possession and pressing, Val did just the pressing and Dike was superb in big spells. Lets get these young lads playing to their potential and hopefully Poya given time will do that.
It will be in league one & half of them will thus be sold. That is not a "Plan". I don't know what you are on, but this season is a total disaster. Last season we finished 5th. Am I seriously missing something? Were fans up in arms last season? Are season ticket holders not bothering to show up this year in their masses? Tell me what you are taking & I'll give it a go. The club is now in crisis. To blame it on Val is the most bizarre ideas anyone could come up with. He was pragmatic, instead of a zealot or a yes man. We will have to agree to disagree, but I think fans will vote with their feet next season.
Val developed our players into to winners and now we change style and go back to being relegation strugglers or relegation strugglers if we are lucky. I know who I blame for their loss of form and price tag and it aint owt that happened last season., Some on here must have been sold shares by Conway, when I see what they write.
Ahh so it's all VIs fault is it he's the bogey man what utter ********. Barnsley FC is in the mess it is for two reasons. Reason 1 the 80% mob Reason 2 the 20% mob Their plan, their recruitment, their incompetent running of the football club, their inability to keep hold of a decent head coaçh when they drop on one by failing to listen to the head coach over playing matters, their arguements over money they're at fault no one else.
You won’t I am the same ain’t been to the last 5 home games.unless these owners bugger off it will be my last season after 25 years a season ticket holder.as for styles he’s like a ventriloquists dummy what ***** comes out of his mouth who’s working him the owners.
Lots of nonsense there, instead of bleating on about what's wrong, how would you have kept Val and how much debt would you put the club in to sustain another push as these lads couldn't have kept last seasons frenzy play up with only 3 subs. Put some substance to your argument what would you do to improve things?
You are blaming the 80% for the players loss of form not a lack of player develop coaching from Val or Schopp.
I wouldn't recruit a 36 year old U23 coach from Sweden. I'd put some experience into the squad I wouldn't continue with a playing style which is so obviously beyond the players current ability it's painful to watch and potentially damaging to their careers. If I had the money to buy the club I wouldn't just buy it and then sit back I'd invest to make it better sadly I don't have the money but then again it would appear the current owners don't either. Nobody is wanting the board to be spending stupid amounts of money and piling up enormous debt what most people want is for them to do what most business owners do and invest in their business if and when it needs it. BTW what's nonsense in my post tell me the parts that aren't facts
I have enjoyed our backwards and forwards over this and will carry on over the next few days as I am quite passionate about it. Red Wine and cheese and biscuit time. Happy New year pal and to everyone else on the BBS. Cheers
Happy New year. So how much money more than WBA would you have paid to keep Val and do you expect the 80% to pay that seperately to our income? Would you have refused Val the opportunity to go to WBA? and what would you think the outcome of that would have been? What makes you think Val would have been a succes this season with the onjuries to key players that we had ? Val played Moon and Halme in centre midfield what does that tell you about his footballing style of play instead of developing Kane Palmer or Styles in that position? Mowatts sole purpose in Vals team was to break up play and hook the ball forward as quick as possible, he got shut of Matty James because an experienced footballing midfielder wasnt what he wanted. Please explain how Vals style of play improved the technical ability of our players or do we not need to develop our players as footballers just push them as high press machines until they break? How much are you willing to pay in transfer fees and wages for experience, give an example of a few players you would sign and an estimate of what they would cost? Also if there is no budget or available funds who pays for this? The plan of signing young hungry players, developing them in to a team, selling some to balance the books and become a no debt sustainable team and replacing them with quality new young players. Whats wrong with that plan? Whats you plan and how do you pay for it? Which manager would you have brought in and what ensures they are a success without spending loads of money and putting us in massove debt? Do you want the owners to re build the West Stand at their own cost even though they dont own the ground?. I could go on but id like to see if i get answers on the above from you or anyone else first but i dont think many have or want to answer the above just to bleat with no substance or solutions other than stating the board are **** and conmen.
Mads Anderson developed massively under Val. As did Styles, Palmer and Sibbick. He got new signings Helik, Brittain, Dike and Morris playing brilliantly at a standard higher than they’d played at before. Woodrow was playing miles better than he is now. To say Val didn’t develop players just isn’t true.
