I’ve lost count what day you are on. Does that mean if you test negative again tomorrow your isolation is over? Hopefully your taste and smell return quickly.

Yes I believe so, I’m currently on day 9, so negative test tomorrow and I’m free but it’s my 10 days anyway,

We are going to a walk-in testing centre for a PCR test today. I think we will both be -ve but you never know. Anne's 10 days are up on Tuesday and mine will be on Thursday. If today's test are -ve then I'll book us in for another tomorrow.

I believe you only need 2 negative LFTs, not PCRs.

As I understand it, LFT is a test for antigens (proteins used by your immune system), they can hang around in your system months after the virus has gone giving a +ve result - this is why you can't have a vaccine jab till 3 months after having COVID. PCR tests, however, detect the presence of the virus itself.
I acknowledge that I'm no expert and may have got this wrong so I'm happy to be corrected...

Edit, this seems to support my understanding. https://www.gavi.org/vaccineswork/how-long-after-i-get-covid-19-will-i-test-negative

I just meant in terms of the rules, it’s the LFT ones they are talking about.

You only need two negative LFT on day 6 and 7 to be allowed out after 7 days, if not negative then the isolation is 10 days but no test whatsoever after 10 days just no cold symptoms but loss of taste and smell is fine.

Is the advice now to wait until you get a negative test? Because it shouldn't be. It's a test designed to detect the presence of the covid virus. After infection you can still be shedding fragments of the inactive virus long after you have recovered from the infection and long after you are able to infect others, but it will still produce a positive test result. Where is this advice from?

Apparently so mate, I did wonder what would happen if I still came back with LFT after 10 days,

@Brush gives a better explanation and a good link. I'm very surprised by this.

I think you have to apply a bit of logic (common sense) if you've been symptom free for a week, then you're unlikely to be infectious, whether you test +ve or not. You should be considerate and wear a mask to further reduce the chances of you passing it on when meeting people.

This is ambiguous but I think it means 2 -ve PCR tests....

I agree mate, tho to be honest I’ve continued to wear a mask all through and will carry on doing so.
