Nothing really makes sense about his appointment to me. Can't see what attracted Poya to the club, or what it was about Poya that led the club to believe that he could get us out of the mess we were in. Nor did anything about Schopp's appointment, and reluctance to sack him make any sense. If we'd won one or two of the last 6 games, we'd be closer to safety and Poya would be in a better position to make some demands, but as things stand we need a miracle.
Yeah. There's obviously a player in there somewhere. I'm fed up of Barnsley F.C getting rid of players before they've ran the rule over them properly.
We should change them if they're not up to the job. The malaise around the club is because the management is weak and poor there's no respect because the players know that both MS originally and PA now are inferior replacements for VI and they don't believe in them or the system they are being asked to play. The players that were left here during the summer
You’re right the appointment at the minute is puzzling from both sides. I’m willing to give him this window to see if it makes the picture clearer
I'm so annoyed that we haven't got any deals ready for the start of the window. If we sign anyone it'll be in the last week of the window. But we'll already be down by then. Jokers.
I referenced the 24 in relation to the COVID issues we were discussing and the rules surrounding potential postponements. Not in reference to contracts. As it turns out, it's less than that, numbers wise. Because some don't count towards the maximum squad size of 25, because they were under 21 at the start of 2021. But do count towards the COVID rules. It's very confusing. But I don't think that is the debate in this thread so very happy to ignore that and move on. Anyway, these are the players registered in the Championship (EFL competitions to be exact, so includes Carabao Cup), with players under the age of 21 (as of Jan 21') in brackets. Collins, Walton, (Jinadu) J.Williams, Brittain, (Vita), Kitching, Helik, Andersen, Halme, Sibbick, (Moon), (Sraha) Benson, Palmer, Gomes, (Styles), (Hondermarck), Oduor Morris, Woodrow, Adeboyejo, Leya Iseka, Oularé, Cole, (Thompson) So it's 19. Or 26 if you count those players who were under 21 in January last year. We have of course seen Frieser and B.Williams recently depart. Gomes was under 21 in January of last year, but loans count towards the number regardless of age. I believe therefore, that we have six spaces we could fill, theoretically, with over 21s. And, we could if we liked, register any of the under 21s from the 23s and 18s, to supplement the first team squad, and it wouldn't count towards that max of 25. But they can't be used towards the COVID thing we aren't talking about. But tomorrow, in the FA Cup, it's a different story. It's my belief that we can select any player contracted, regardless of age or registration. And I've absolutely no doubt at all, that indeed tomorrow you will see a very different matchday squad. Because of the virus and the injuries picked up. In terms of DWLC (prefer that to your version of shortening it), I believe he's counting the lads out on loan and one or two others who've been on the bench or whatever in the last few years. He named Aiden Marsh for example, who has been on the bench a couple of times (but not used), most recently the 3-0 win at Fulham in 2020. In that case, he's right - there are more players. More than his stated 33 in fact. Because the 23s and 18s are on contracts themselves too. I'm assuming, based on thread title (I haven't read much of it, just skimmed) that this is about January recruitment and squad size etc. Who to buy, where to add players, who to sell? I'll step out of that debate I think. I hope the above noise is of some use. If not, it won't be the first or last useless effort on my part!
Why not someone at Barnsley F.C. running the rule over players before they sign them first though mate? He's clearly nowhere near able to play 90 minutes of Championship football. They might as well play me and thee instead
He talks about Vita like he's a player we've signed on loan from a Sunday league pub team not the biggest most successful team in Germany. If they're having to coach him to the extent he is suggesting who the hell decided to sign him and why and who sanctioned the signing and why. Is he another one of Conway's I'm in charge I'll sign who I want signings or did the spreadsheet king Cryne junior have a bad day.
I was OK with him at first and his earlier interviews, but he seems to have lost all interest and desire in a short time. "Pleading the Fifth" to questions only works over here.
As someone who has followed BFC from the depths of the bottom of the old 4th Division, I accept we are a selling club. With the crowd sizes multiplied by our low season ticket prices, we have to be. I am therefore OK with our "Plan", although it needs to be continually tweaked. In the past, when we have added a couple of older heads, either permanently or on loan, it has benefited everyone. As such, I cannot understand why we do not seem to be interested in gambling a few quid on some short-term loans until the end of the season to try and stay up, versus just accepting a six million quid loss this month. I expect players to be sold and no real permanent incomings this window, based on our league position alone.
