The way it was told on absolute radio news was that he had authorisation from the Australian government and having had Covid was immune.
The way it read to me on BBC site is it was confirmed by Tennis and local authority that it was acceptable for entry to the Tennis tournament, immigration saying not not acceptable to the Govt rules. Have no idea if like America different states have different rules or if I’ve read it wrong, but that’s how it read to me.
Anti-vax idiot uses recent covid infection to get vax exemption. Unbelievable. And he wonders why people are angry.
Judge has overturned the decision to block his entry into Australia and he is free to play. I suspect we have not heard the last of this saga though
Sounds like it was overturned as Authorities didn’t give him enough time to respond as opposed to if he was exempt or not.
Can't find it now but apparently was posing for pictures with fans the day after that. The man's a complete idiot. I respect anyone's right not to have the vaccine and I think the current rules in England for getting into stadiums are stupid. However vaccine status as a condition of entry into a country isn't unheard of and he wanted to go anyway. He also has a history of anti Vaxx opinions and idiotic holistic and homeopathic medicine beliefs.
The Oz Tennis authorities should just refuse to officiate Novax first round match and give a bye to his opponent. Make a statement and send him packing for that first flight home. It would set a precedent for future tournaments around the world.
Why? You might disagree with his desire not to be vaccinated but he’s followed all the rules here in his dealings with tennis Australia. Didn’t the judge say ‘what else could this man have done?’ or words to that effect? I’m not his biggest fan by a long stretch but the precedent, if you wanted one, needed setting before he flew in to the country.
You want one of the greatest players to ever walk the planet barred from competition because he won't take the drugs you want him to take? Seems reasonable and balanced.
The bloke's a *****. He either faked a positive test to get an exemption, or was out and about with people while he was positive. I hope they find a way to cancel his visa.
He applied for an exemption in November then had a positive PCR test for Covid in mid-December, but tried using the December test as the proof for his exemption in November...
