So the highly anticipated new road layout at the former Penny Pie Park site is open. However, traffic lights aren’t working, cones all over the place, no clear road layout, traffic going the wrong way, STILL heavy queuing up Dodworth Road but now with the addition of queuing up the M1 slip roads too - both North and South. It appears you cannot get in or out of Barnsley now!

Well done Barnsley Council, well done

Any parents with kids and Horizon - you might be better off dropping them off on Sunday evening for Monday morning - they might get there on time then!!

I went round it at 7:15 this morning and it wasn't too bad, but you could see it was slower than before even at that time.
Hopefully proper traffic management will sort it out.

Sounds like only 1 lane is open rather than them all.

I can't understand why they have opened it when it clearly isn't finished. It took half an hour to get from Dodworth Valley to the new junction.

I went past the day before and it still looked like a building site. Didn’t look to me like it was anywhere near ready.

Jesus Christ........it’s been open some 4 hours, of course it’s going to take a few week to get it finished, they can’t just shake a magic wand one night and it be complete, with all changes there’s some form of disruption. I live not a million miles from it and I’ve used it twice this morning, it looks like it’ll work well when completed

Wouldn’t it be better to wait until it’s actually finished though, before opening it?

Clearly they have to open parts of it to finish all of it, particularly the bit outside the school.

How the hell can you finish a project of that magnitude without having some minor disruptions? They’ve totally altered the flow of traffic from Dodworth Road and Porgmoor Road so it’s bound to have some effect for a week or so

Okey doke. Will take your word for it. The whole scheme seems to have been massively opposed locally, so I hope it’s all worth it.

But why is it open before it's finished?

Most likely due to fact that in order to complete it they have to gain access to current roads in use, I’m no highway engineer but it dosent take a genius to see it!! I use the road daily, I’ll set off 10 minutes earlier and allow a bit of time at teatime.

Why does everyone have to pick a negative in everything these days before actually thinking there could be a positive at the end?

Do you live near by? I do and personally I’d have stuck to how it was and kept the park but having seen it develop and the new park for the kids and the proposed bridge to access from pogmoor road it’s looking well. Those that live near the old lights will be pleased too as there front now isn’t like a duel carriage way

I live up there and must be one of the only people around there that agrees with the gyratory.

Also "Most likely due to fact that in order to complete it they have to gain access to current roads in use, I’m no highway engineer but it dosent take a genius to see it".

I'm obviously not a highways engineer and I'm obviously not a genius as I don't understand what you mean, can you explain please?

I’m getting into a tit for tat debate about a road but how the Fuk can you expect to alter the flow of traffic from Dodworth road and Pogmoor road without ultimately having to cause some disruption? Do you think that they’d cause disruption like this for the sake of it?
