I understand disruption, I've been happily living with it for ages but why open the gyratory up when it's not ready? Even the temporary measures in place over the last year were better than the mess I've witnessed this morning.
Might be worth getting off at Jtn 38 until this all dies down mate. Drive through Darton and down Huddersfield Road into town
I do. Took 25 minutes to get out of my drive this morning. I personally feel that's a considerable failing even if it's temporary.
Only one half is open isn’t it? I thought it was just the traffic from Pogmoor Road being sent round the new bit with the rest of the crossroads operating as ‘normal’? Surely it’s better to reserve judgement until it’s fully open?
Be a shame to miss an opportunity to kick the council again wouldn’t it. Ever thought about moving somewhere that might suit you better?
But that’s exactly the plan. It’s to stack the traffic and move the key ‘crossover’ movements further away from the motorway. These road schemes are rarely designed to create free-flowing traffic - the only way that happens is with grade separated junctions and that was never going to happen with the limited space available.
Ive lived in this area for over 30 years and for most of them the traffic has been diabolical, even when the kids were little in the early 90's getting to schools and after school clubs meant setting off miles earlier than the journey times required. The local objections were based on viewing the plans and realising that the phrase "Titanic" and "Deck chairs" were what sprang to mind, alongside the horrendous hospital parking fiasco unless you've lived with it ya have no idea. "Nimbys" are people who don't want a new road or supermarket in their green and pleasant piece of rural living, not people who have lived with it for years. And yes I could have moved but due to work commitments and schools/ college there isn't a better central area to live in, therefore ya put up with the crap traffic and parking situation
Most of the people who complained didn't give a 5hit for Penny Pie Park, they just used this scheme as a springboard for their campaign against MU1, hence, NIMBYs. When they moved in, did they care that their shiney new house or bungalow was built on someones view of the "countryside"? Did they buggery.
If that is the case I would certainly question the wisdom of choosing a Friday morning in term time as the ideal "opening day"
@Bossman went over it in his Lear jet at the height of rush hour. Took all of 3 seconds. A lot of fuss over nothing, he says.
Not sure how ya kno who complained, I certainly don't and talking to people around me nobody mentioned MU1 as it's over the other side and down towards barugh Green.. and let's face it everybody's house was once a field or meadow. most people I spoke to in this area were more concerned about the long term building for little gain, god knows if it now improves traffic around here am all for it...
Maybe that was the thinking. I'm dubious as I have to drive through the horrific mess they made down Wickes most days. If it settles down and works ill hold my hands up and say it was a good move. I'm not really sure a solution exists while ever you have the same level of traffic. Talk of a new school in the Broadway area is hardly going to improve things either.
