Further down Dodworth Road so traffic was queued in both directions across my drive.

I live in a block of six flats. Two cars were ahead of me getting out of the drive. The drive was blocked and traffic didn't move for the first ten minutes or so. Bit of movement and the guy in front was let out, then blocked again. And it took me 25 minutes to get off the drive.

While I agree it is a option for some and it would help ease traffic it certainly isn't a option for all. These big schools have huge catchment areas.

I imagine there are lots of kids at horizon that aren’t in reasonable walking distance

Depends on what you call reasonable, do you know there are loads that aren't within reasonable walking distance?

We used to catch the bus into town and then walk it from the bus station up to Holgate. There were kids from Hemsworth, Elsecar, Darfield etc doing the same. Can't remember anyone getting dropped off in a car

What doesn’t make sense to me is why the necessary changes to Horizon’s entry/exit/car park weren’t finished when the school was closed. In fact, all the work opposite the school should’ve been done first. The new lanes on Dodworth road opposite the school could’ve easily been fully finished and fenced off until the rest of the work was finished.

Fingers crossed they get the rest of it finished quite quickly. For all the controversy it’s caused, I do actually think this one will make a difference.

I haven't been near it so don't know exactly what they've done but what I think JC is saying is that when you are altering an existing road to fit into a new layout then you can do most of the work in a closed off section that's off the highway but at some point you're going to have to close off some of the existing road to make alterations there so you have to have a period where you're working on an half and half basis, half finished new bit and half finished existing bit. The only other way to do it is to close the entire section down for a while and work on it in a shut down situation.

You walked it from GT Houghton to Darfield every day? That wouldn't be safe these days. It would involve either walking for miles along busy high speed roads or walking for miles across unlit secluded countryside.
