Crowds been hitting 900+ in local non league. Obviously league postponements have helped.
My other half went to watch Hallam last weekend - said it was rammed. David Hirst and Uriah Rennie in attendance. Fans from a number of local league clubs there,
We're off to Penistone Church v Handsworth tomorrow. We were even contemplating Hallam away at Retford.
Could be the thing we do on weekends from now on. Random non league games.

Go for it, you won't regret it. I started doing it this season and so far I've been to Penistone four times, Worksop twice, Athersley Rec, Emley, York and Bridlington. Enjoyed every minute except perhaps the ball in the face at Worksop!
Torn between Penistone v Handsworth and Stocksbridge v Brighouse tomorrow.

I can't imagine enjoying watching a game where I didn't care about the outcome.

I think I will manage that. Apart from tomorrow. I would ordinarily want Penistone to win, but I have been Assistant Manager at Handsworth Girls/ Ladies so it's a tough call.

I've worked at Shelley FC so will always look out for their results. Aside from that, I'll just go with the flow.

Thinking of a Hallam Season Ticket next year. But also quite like the idea of picking and choosing games.

The emotional attachment can work both ways. The only place I havent enjoyed my football this season is Oakwell, and thats in 6 visits. Over 60 years in the trenches and it comes to this.

Is that how you feel with games on TV too or do you tend to have favoured sides for that?

I've watched a couple of non league games and I couldn't get excited but did enjoy it in a completely different way to how I do with Barnsley. it was more like watching the diving at the Olympics. I have no particular interest but enjoy it once I've got it on for some reason

Don't people have enough of watching a poor standard of Football in a decaying stadium that's seen better days when they visit Oakwell without watching other teams :D

Only games on TV I watch are Barnsley when we're on, I don't even watch England these days. I've thought about this and a while ago I came to conclusion that I enjoy playing football and I support Barnsley, but I'm definitely not a football fan.

For me grassroots football is a world away from the cynicism, cheating, pressure and greed that epitomises the professional game these days.
The players may lack the finer technical skills but you can't fault their enthusiasm, commitment and sheer hard graft. The clubs are invariably community hubs, with bars or social clubs open through the week, and the staff are almost all volunteers.
The atmosphere is just totally different, with fans able to mix freely and even share a beer on the terraces during the game. At Worksop they even have outdoor tables by the snack bar where you can watch the game whilst you sit and consume your pie n peas!

I'm in a similar frame of mind. I have almost no interest in watching other teams on telly, especially not Premier League with it's overpaid players, drooling pundits, and stop-start VAR ******. The only exception is the FA Cup, where I sometimes watch a match or two in the early rounds. That's probably because I have my nostalgia goggles on and still believe in the magic of the FA cup (although, ironically I stayed away when we played Barrow). I watch Barnsley because it's what I've always done, and it's time spent out and about with my son. It's as much a habit as anything. Mind you, I've not been to Oakwell since early December, Huddersfield match, and I can't honestly say I'm missing it. Seems like not attending can also be habit forming.

I'd agree with that, one thing this season has excelled at is reinforcing my growing apathy for the game.

My wife actually said, "If you're so fed up with it, why don't you start supporting a different team?"

I mean, how do you even begin to answer that?

I like football. Happy to watch any from junior up to Prem. Could only ever support Barnsley, but have a soft spot for other teams.

I couldn't support Hallam - too close to Wendy/United for my liking, also their supporters are a bit shitty. I went to watch them at Worsbrough a few years ago and they were the type who wanted every decision, every foul etc. Not nice people at all. I watched Worsbrough Bridge when I was young - started going to Oakwell when Mick Butler was transferred from the Bridge, I still like them to do well and I don't get too down if things aren't going to plan, unlike Barnsley who ruin my weekend quite regularly these days,
