That’s fair. Although I was thinking more Marc Roberts/Alfie Mawson type money or when we sold Pinnock, Lindsay and Moore. Wasn’t Schopp a £500k buyout as well? You mention speculation a lot in your post but isn’t that exactly what your counter discussion point is? Or argument if we use your language. I think you’re downplaying the impact of Covid to be honest, but the essence behind your points I agree with.
But any new signing would have come in with Madds or Helik alongside them. Helik who has been to a major international tournament with his country and Madds who’s close to racking up 100 Championship games.
So his complaint is that his company offered bonuses to players that were too big to fulfill due to covid. And that's the efl's problem?
There’s your issue. I see plenty on here that wouldn’t be interested if we aren’t in the Championship. Sad, really.
Do you not think it’s a general problem? Maybe less parachute money should be given out and those getting in to the playoffs in all divisions should get additional prize money? Or that could have happened last year to offset the lack of crowds? Really not something I’m bothered about getting in to a heated debate about. It’s tiring enough elsewhere at the moment. Just pointing out that this quote or comment is way, way down what we should be worried about.
The poll options are too simplistic for me to vote on, as there are a lot of 'ifs and buts' to what I want. Off the top of my head: - I want the owners to invest their own funds in paying for the club, rather than using monies held by BFC. - I want PMG to stop playing silly buggers regarding their purchase of the club and pay the Crynes the monies that are owed to them. - I want them to run the club in a sustainable way that doesn't put its future in long-term jeopardy. This could either be via running the club without adding in funds to it, or doing so in a sustainable way with a long-term view as to when these were recovered (effectively operating in a similar way to how Patrick Cryne ran things). - I don't want the club to take on any liability that has the potential to threaten it's long-term future (e.g. the loan situation at Nice). - I'm happy for any ownership to recoup it's investment long-term, provided that this is aligned to the club achieving on-field success. In reality, this is only likely to be feasible by us being promoted to the Premier League which, as we have seen, is an extremely long-shot but one that isn't beyond the realms of possibility. However, I've seen 4 years of how PMG are actually running the club and, as much as it would still be possible for them to adopt any or all of the above strategies, they have proven to be bad-faith actors as far as I'm concerned so, above anything else, I want them out of the club and someone else to be given the chance to run things properly.
I want them to spend their own money on actually buying the club. And until they have they should be purchasing match tickets. Other than that, no.
They can invest all the money they want but if they still insist on trying to run a competitive sporting business like a cheap supermarket they'll continue to get the same results. They are as owners not used to a sporting culture where on field failure as real consequences. Conway is from a country where in its major sport finishing bottom means you get first pick of the new talent the following year not relegated to a lower division with lower income streams. There is nothing wrong with signing or bringing through the academy young players and hoping that you'll improve them into players you can sell later for a profit it's actually what Barnsley FC have always done the problem is that's all the current model does. Before theres always been a mix in Wilson's promotion season for example while we signed young players and unknowns Appleby, Marcelle and played homegrown talent like Eaden we also added the experience of Thompson and Wilkinson and then a bit later Hendrie. That's the problem with the plan as it is currently being implemented It's too zealously stuck to and there's no off switch. in that I honestly believe if the board received an acceptable offer for every first team player in a transfer window they would sell them all because to them that is the perfect execution of the plan. If you want evidence of this I give you the sale of both Lindsey and Pinnock in the same window added to the departure of Davis which ripped the heart out of the defence. So no I don't want them to invest their money because it wouldn't change their plan their method of running the club their reason for owning it. What I want is owners that want to try and achieve on the field success as the top priority for that to be the main reason for the club's existence not owners who want to create profit from player sales as the first and on the evidence of this season the only priority.
I think that yet again with Mr Conway had he actually done any research before buying the club he would have known these things. You can't buy something and 4 years later complain you don't like what you bought
I don’t think we’d have sold them without the contract situation being as it was, so I’m not sure that’s the evidence you want it to be. Especially when Helik and Madds are still here and we’re saying that nobody is leaving this month. The optimum time for selling Madds is this Summer. Helik was last Summer, which is why I’m so surprised he stayed. Collins also this Summer I think? Or did he sign a six year contract?
Well he seems to be saying that the bonuses HE gave to our players for getting to the playoffs were higher than the revenue received because the league HE bought a club in doesn't pay a bonus to the club's as per the regulations that HE agree to for the last 4 years.
Added with Covid rules impacting on revenue and I think it’s a fair point. You can buy something, visit something, participate in something, and then complain that it isn’t right. There’s plenty of things in all walks of life, for all of us, where the rules or the fairness of something isn’t quite right. Even though we signed up for it, we can still point it out.
You're right of course but when we do we look like idiots. Especially when we try to promote ourselves as astute businessmen who then go whining that your mistakes are someone else's fault yet again
Every post doesn't turn into politics - I was simply making a comparison that Paul Conway and Boris Johnson are forgiven by the majority when things are going well, but in a crisis they're completely and rightly shot to pieces.
