Does anyone else do the daily Wordle to use the old brain matter? It's basically Lingo but without the annoying host. https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
You’ve just convinced me to play for the first time after it ignoring it for two weeks. How did I do?
Just a warning for anyone entering the discussion who's new to it. Everyone gets the same word each day, so make sure you don't give any spoilers. 2 is a ridiculous score, so if that was a genuine first attempt don't expect to guess 3 letters straight away!
Love it. It's already getting quite competitive in our family every day, unsurprising as we're all linguists of one sort or another!
That was a genuine first attempt. I'd not even played it before or been on the website. Just seen the numerous tweets.
This was my attempt today, so getting 3 right first time isn't always that helpful. I usually get it in 4, done 3 a few times.
Was your first word a rude one? I managed it on the fifth go but I don’t use Twitter so you’ll have to take my word for it
Depends on what the word is, as to how easy people find it. Lots of uproar a few days ago when there was an American spelling used (FAVOR). Anyone wanting a harder challenge should try Absurdle. This uses the same database of words but changes the answer depending on what you've guessed to always leave you with the biggest subset of words available (i.e. your first guess will always show 5 blanks, as there is a huge subset still available of words using none of these letters). You basically have to narrow the available options down in as few goes as possible. I've done it in 6 on one occasion, and I reckon that 5 is likely the best possible score you can get. https://qntm.org/files/wordle/index.html
Thought it was PLAYA. We release more than 3 of those though. Just managed to get a 5 on Absurdle too, so have now engaged smug mode for the rest of the day.
