I got the letter saying that i could continue driving etc. It doesn't make sense why it should take so long. I know a lad who drives for Jewson and it's just the same for him .
I know, I’m not actually a HGV driver but for my business I have to have an Operators licence, ADR, Transport Manager and HGV licence. Thankfully it’s only every 5 years
Prior to all this covid, I thought DVLA was pretty efficient, as far as government agencies goes. But I really don't understand this suggestion that because staff are working from home, this is what is causing major delays. If that is the case, then managers are clearly not managing the situation well. They have had long enough now to adapt, as all other organisations have. I have worked from home almost exclusively now for 22 months and have honestly never worked harder or more efficiently.
I don’t know the current state of affairs but several of us posted last year the mess DVLA were in. They couldn’t effectively ’work from home’ as their IT was well overdue an upgrade. So they were expected to cram into the office during a pandemic resulting in mass sickness and industrial unrest. AFAIK they’re still suffering the fallout from that, and I’m fairly sure the ‘working from home’ message is anti public sector bullsh it. Because the public sector who are ‘working from home’ have more than dealt with a massive increase in workload and just got on with it.
Yup, the people who do HGV training etc are still saying it’s IT that’s the issue. They are saying opposite of too many in the Office though, but that there is a fraction of them working there and adding to the issue that they are taking turns causing a continuity issue. I’m not an IT expert, but what I do know is my mate who is an Accountant for NHS has worked from home almost from day one, so if they can manage to introduce it, it’s odd that these can’t.
