Those staff that he took with him were also under contract. And didn’t have release clauses in theres to guarantee they could leave, unlike Val.

They chose to go with him, and the club chose to let them.

You are looking in the wrong place, blaming Val for backroom staff leaving. It was one out, all out in the summer. So far, not one member of coaching or backroom staff has stayed when having even a sniff of a job at another club. This has included Heckingbottom going to Leeds, Sedgy to Huddersfield after being here from being a kid. They don’t want to work here longer than they have to.

I'm not singularly 'blaming' val for anything. but he played a part, IMO. if he came back, I'd be constantly looking over my shoulder the second he started to do well. I get why others would want him back though.

I can think of 2 million reasons why Val moved on, he was sold , this lot could see no further than another pay check & then expectwd to replace him with a cheap option off the spread sheet , rinse & repeat , only this time it has backfired on our owners .

Don't forget. (Unless previously mentioned. I haven't read all the thread)
Better players in Mowatt and DK. And the luxury of 5 subs. Which allowed us to go hell for leather.
But in the latter stages of his tenure. Other teams had worked out how to combat the style.

Again, don't disagree. I just think we should be looking forwards, not backwards. Never a fan of returning managers.

    Standard football supporters then.

If we went on a 10 game winning run and stayed up (I know, suspend disbelief) then we'd all be happy with Poya.

From a purely footballing point of view, it was never a good move for him. They were expecting automatic promotion, the fans have been calling out previous managers for their playing style, and they sacked a manager for being 4th in the league.

At Barnsley, he inherited a setup that was ideal for him. A club with an identity of playing a high energy press, and three years of recruitment both on and off the field to help make that work. So much so, he took three (that I know of) of the staff with him, and signed the captain. But for all the extra funds, and apparent quality in their squad, he finds himself in the same league position as we finished in.

Not sure if they will sack him though. He has a long contract, and they backed him enough to spend a wedge on the striker that he wanted.

I'd have him back here in a heartbeat. A winning team that gave 100% from the first minute to the last. All clubs could use five subs and played in empty stadiums. The way some folk go on about it, you'd think that only applied to Barnsley!
Still, we play passing football now, so everything's fine! :D:D

Rumours mounting on Twitter that the deed has been done.
A smattering of 'ITK' accounts and a fair few from folk with a single follower.

I also got the sense that the players respected him and wanted to play for him. I can't say I saw the same with Schopp and I don't it's the same with Poya. Might be wrong, and I appreciate to an extent I'm questioning their professionalism here, but something isn't right. I think they need a big presence in the dressing room. They're young and I think Val seemed to do a good job of keeping them focused.

I’d give him a piggy back all the way here if it would help get him back.

    God I miss last season.

In all seriousness, if he has been sacked, I wonder what his next move is. I’m guessing probably not in England.

Surely it'd be worth our board at least trying to have a conversation with him about returning? If they're at all interested in turning things around and getting the fans back onboard, wouldn't that be their best strategy?
Problem is, he probably wouldn't want to come back, given our position. But I guess he knows the players and what they're capable of... you never know.

I would never complain about us winning football matches, watching players giving 100% and seeing our club comfortably getting into the Championship Play Offs.
I'm making the most of a quiet period for the family, mate, as I don't know how long it will last.
