WBA poached them after Val ( who I don’t think came to us with a back room staff of his own ) asked them to go with him . Val could have worked with those still there at WBA . You are right no one forced them to go but do you think they are on the same money as they were with us , I don’t

 

I cannot believe you said we were easy to play against!....virtually every opposing manager said the opposite, you say we were found but it was impossible to win every game.....would love to see Vals win percentage whilst he were here, surely that would point to the fact we weren’t easy to play against.......I would have him back like a shot

 

For 90% of the season I would agree with you completely, but in my view towards the end and obviously with West Brom it does look like other teams have worked out a way to mitigate his style.

 

I cannot get my head around this, WBA are in the top six & people are talking about Val as if he his failing, they lost their first home match of the season last week , they might be having a stutter at the moment but you get that during a 46 match season ,I know this , there are at least another 18 clubs in this league who wished they were stuttering along in the same position .

 

He's a one trick pony. His management record is one good season with us. Elsewhere he hasn't done anything of note. His season with us was an abnormality rather than the norm. Wherever he goes after WBA I would bet on him flopping again. Some guys just fit a team where it doesn't work out elsewhere like with Keef and Rochdale.

 

Clubs with parachute payments have so much advantage they should be in the top three and also the fear that if they do not go straight back up their wage structure means they are at considerable risk

Just so I get my head around it how many tricks have our last two ponies had ?

 

Have you seen his management win percentage stats? Yet you say he’s had one good season with us.There’s a lot of managers with far worse records than big Vals.

Did I like pushing for promotion - certainly
Did i like the vertical football style -not really
Do I like tippy tappy - not really

For me somewhere in-between would be the ideal. It can be done because we have done it before but not with the squad Val had. Who knows when we will achieve that again.

Sadly, the main reason he won't come back here is nothing to do with what he thinks of the owners, or what the owners think of his style. Just simply that we can't afford him. Chances are he's still being paid a wedge of cash from WBA until he gets another job.

They certainly do have the advantage but there is no guarantee , the championship & even division one are littered with clubs who have dropped from the top flight & do not make it back straight away .

 

But we did play somewhere in between under Val, a particular highlight was Bournemouth away where we played some lovely stuff. The problem was other teams resorting to long ball tactics, like Derby did.
