Shame, but just goes to show how much of a risk it is faffing about, waiting till the end of the window. No doubt it fell through due to financial reasons (though he may have wanted to move here). Would you swap any of the players that the club have been adamant on not selling (Helik, Styles, Brittain etc...) for him?
It's the first time we've got any real detail out of a Poya interview, and it almost made me wish for a return to the vague waffle that told us nothing. In summary: - he confirmed that we attempted, and failed, to strengthen the central midfield position via the Trybull deal falling through. That surely falls squarely on the CEO, but confirms that we didn't do what we set out to achieve within the window. - he threw Sibbick under the bus with regard to the decision to sell him. - he openly questioned why we didn't bring players in earlier in the window and his "I hope the wait is worth it" comment suggests that he had little input into who eventually came in. - and, scariest of all, he suggested that Obbi could be an option again for us in the future (although even I struggle to believe he kept a straight face for this one). It's the closest he's come to expressing frustration with the whole thing, but it doesn't paint a glowing review that all is going well behind the scenes.
Pretty much every head coach since these bought the club as expressed their frustrations at the clubs inability to bring the right players in its nothing new.
I'm not going to blame anyone for the Trybull deal not being completed. Sometimes there is simply no blame to apportion. However, and I really don't understand this, why not try to finalise the deal in the first few days in January? If it runs into problems at that point turn to your second target. If that fails your third and so on. If you're working on getting a deal over the line on the final day of the window you have failed to take the appropriate action even if that deal is complete.
It begs the question why anyone would take the role, certainly backs up why no decent home based coach would be interested. The barrel we're scraping for coaches is getting emptier that's for sure. First Schopp, now Asbaghi......I dread to think where we'll go next with income shrinking massively.
This guy would almost certainly not have been the first choice though. He maybe have been only the forth or fifth on the list. It is amazing though how how many deals are completed in the last hours of the window.
How do you know though that we didn't try that though? I reckon there's more deals completed on deadline day, than there is in January as a whole. Khaled said we'd a number of targets in the central midfield position, and it might have been a case of, some weren't made available before deadline day. It's part of the reason I want us to do away with a transfer window, because it becomes a circus on the last day, when the big clubs decide who they're letting go, and the small clubs scrabble around trying to let players go, to fund other players coming in.
It was more a criticism of them failing to land an identified requirement throughout the window, rather than a comment on the individual deal falling through. In this case, it would appear to be a combination of leaving it until the last minute and having only one potential target lined up, albeit that's an assumption made based on the final outcome. The end result is that the Head Coach is lamenting the inability to strengthen central midfield.
Is it really bad that I’ve read the chronicle article and can only think they’ve leaked that to try and garner a bit of favour amongst the fan base? ‘Look, we tried to sign a 28 year old central midfielder with championship and premier league experience but it just fell through’ Did they actually make a serious attempt do we think? If they’d actually signed Trybull, and done so earlier in the window than last minute, they might have convinced me they were trying. Call me a pessimist but I’m not convinced they ever were going to sign him.
You could be right. I'm pretty sure the owners were very keen on telling everyone they do business behind closed doors/private with signings only known when they announce it so this is a departure from that. There were rumours West Ham tried something similar when they were 'reported' to have bid for Kalvin Phillips for £35 million and £50 million plus on Nunez. A lot of folk think it was made up and leaked to placate the fan base for not signing anyone to help them push for Europe. We'll never know really.
....I dread to think where we'll go next with income shrinking massively.[/QUOTE] Have a quid on a bloke called Mosé Jorais.
Think we may have tried for Trybull but let’s be honest, it’s not hard to see why he took up an offer from a German 2nd tier side. We’re certs to be playing 3rd tier football next season and he’s hardly likely to relocate to England for that. If we’d had even half a dozen more points he might’ve considered it.
If you tried to sign 5 players, and missed out on all 5, you may wish to namedrop your 5th choice. Personally, if I was going to reveal who I attempted to sign, I'd be talking about my first choice who would undoubtedly be the better player.
