Just had my first listen of the new album. Fk me. Absolutely stunning. The first album was a belter, this is masterpiece territory. Gutting that Isaac just left. Feel very lucky to have seen em live, during their very brief period. Get on it.
Not sure what Genre they are but doing a quick search an article came up saying we want to be the new Arcade Fire ! Might give that a miss then and see anyone who wants to be the new XX
They aren't like arcade fire. Much darker & folky in places. Hard to pigeon hole. I'd recommend giving them a try. They may not be for you, but worth a listen.
I think that reference was more to do with the multi-instrumental approach to how they make music, rather than sounding like Arcade Fire. There is definitely shades of Funeral in there, but nothing beyond that…and that’s not a bad thing tbf. Only shades though. So much more going on. Frontman has left though, so not sure where they will go from here. I also don’t know what genre they are. That’s a very good thing though.
Holy *****. On side C. This is an outstanding LP. Reminds me a bit of Jarvis mixed with Nick Cave. There is a lot of early Pavement in there on reflection. Brilliant LP.
It's phenomenal. It gets better with each listen. The critical reception it's getting is through the roof. I thought Yard Act would get album of the year, but this is another level.
After a few listens I can't see this being topped for album of the year. The Place Where He Inserted the Blade is a phenomenal song.
Had a brief chat with him at a gig before covid hit. Lovely fella, but one of the shyest blokes I’ve ever met. A skin too few most probably.
Thanks a lot for posting this Marc. Really enjoying it. Like you and others say, genre defying. Haldern really reminds me of Salt, Silver, Oxygen by Antony and The Johnsons with shades of early Bon Iver. And Bread Song has shades of Bowie and Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud. Great recommendation
I haven't bothered listening, but threads like this intrigue me as I haven't got a clue what most are on about. It's like trying to decipher a foreign language. Drummers as lead vocals is not unique either. Even happened before Karen Carpenter did it.
Very enjoyable though marginally prefer Yard Act. On an unrelated note went to a Benefits gig the other day **** me that guy is angry. Amazing gig though
It’s a fair old step from his previous indie pop incarnation, im loving what he’s doing now though, along with Bob Vylan there’s a decent racket being made by musicians with something to say, vive la revolution
