I was going to make this point but didn’t want to trip myself up or say something that wasn’t correct. But you’re absolutely right - they were going to take that $9 million and distribute to causes they believed were worthwhile. Unless you saw the news or e-mail and chose a refund. How we’ve got to this point I’ve no idea. Especially with such a passive acceptance of everything and criticism of those who want to stand up to it. Solidarity with those protesting in Canada from me. I saw the farmers turned up yesterday/today to add to the convey. Also saw people trying to make out it isn’t peaceful despite Trudeau trying to do everything he can to ignite it to something it isn’t.
This isn't a freedom convoy. It's the far right stirring up hate and misinformation. Again. The nazi symbols and the trump flags are there for everyone to see. Most canadian truckers are vaccinated. I read 85%. There's plenty of Americans there too, no doubt spreading the virus meaning it'll take even longer to get out of this and back to normal. Is really so bad to expect people who travel over the border a lot to be vaccinated? Attacking healthcare workers outside hospitals so much that staff have had memos telling them not to wear their scrubs or IDs. Threatening staff at homeless shelters too. Classy.
I'm making "NoMask Lifes Matter" and "NoVax Lifes Matter" T-Shirts and Badges as fast as I can in anticipation of everyone switching allegiance.
I dare say given the numbers involved it's a cross section of people with all sorts of different political perspectives. It's lazy to just label them all as "far right" for having a different opinion.
It’s the same lazy generalisations that are calling Joe Rogan alt right. The same Joe Rogan who was a massive Bernie Sanders fan, said Obama was the best president of his lifetime, said Michelle Obama would win the 2024 US Election comfortably and be amazing for the country, and didn’t vote for Trump in the last election. It’s way too easy these days to just throw out a label.
Seems to be the way if the world now though. If you disagree with anyone's opinion, or agree with anything someone says you are suddenly accused of supporting a entire ideology. For daring to question the cost of covid restrictions I have had some horrible things said to me. Including a couple of Private messages on here.
90% of Canadian Truckers are vaccinated. Major players groups in running the movement have links to Q-Anon, racist and anti-Muslim, anti LGBTQ, 5G conspiracy, neo-Nazi and anti-vaccine groups. Sounds like a right brains trust.
Can you explain to me why being vaccinated would have any bearing on whether or not people oppose vaccine mandates?
I was pointing out that the vast majority of Canadian Truckers are vaccinated and that those demonstrating are not representative of the majority of Canadian Truckers.
More so in the US, but the window for what Left Wing means has been moved so far over to the left of that, that you’ve now got people who are left wing aligned overall being call alt right. It’s crazy.
This protest has very little support. There were maybe 60-80 trucks last night. It’s not an anti-mask protest. It’s not an anti-mandate protest (because truckers need the vaccine to enter the US anyway.) To label it as alt-right is accurate. It’s very fringe - in addition to the nazi flags and yellow stars and white supremacists, they are blocking hospitals, harassing nurses and doctors, and have a manifesto to depose the democratically elected government.
How does that statistic help to explain that the demonstrations don't represent the Truckers? I'm fully vaccinated but I oppose vaccine mandates just as I oppose all other forms of right wing extremism.
The only person I can see with blatant overt fascist tendencies is the bloke who blacks himself up for a laugh.
I'm vaccinated and I think compulsory vaccination is a disgrace. At work we have just 2 people who aren't vaccinated yet I reckon at least half oppose compulsory vaccination
Imagine taking the "anti-sematic" label that Labour got tarnished with, and attributing it to all it's members. It's just wrong, and very disingenuous. They're not against the vaccine, they're against mandates
Correct. Just because Trudeau is a racist authoritarian , for example, doesn't necessarily mean that everyone who opposes these rallies is.
Wouldn’t want to debate this with anyone living in Canada, but Ottawa police were prepared for 1,000 to 2,000 vehicles to arrive and reports suggested it exceeded their expectations. 400 vehicles arrived via Winnipeg, 550+ via another route in to the city, plus thousands protesting in person. Not saying it’s the case here, but the mainstream media reported the last freedom march in London as ‘hundreds’ when it was actually tens of thousands.
It does make you wonder how different the main stream media would be (and people in general, I suppose), had it been Trump who chose to do black face on multiple occasions. Full body too, actually. I'm no fan of Trump's rhetoric at all, but double standards? I'm left, always have been. No shame in admitting that whatsoever. But there's just something about Trudeau I really do not like, at all
I know just following tv and movies it's apparent how bad things have become. The preaching of tolerance but the slightest disagreement and people are cancelled.
The Winnipeg convoy dispersed en route. My friend lives just east of Rideau. That’s what he counted last night. It’s possible there are more outside the immediate downtown but the protest has no real support here. Be anti mask or anti mandate all you want - trust me, it’s not something you want to align yourself with. The reason it’s such a big deal is that police can’t disperse the trucks with risk of getting themselves run over. Otherwise it’s quite irrelevant.
