As lazy as Moncur, sloppy as Frimpong and heart of Mellis. We've wasted a lot of money on someone who was playing kids Football. Helik saved us today when he nearly cost us a goal.
even on a day where everyone put in a shift and raised their game 10x the levels they've been playing at today - he still managed to be absolute gash. we just cannot afford to carry him. worry is, palmer seems to be the go to alternative. I'd play Wolfe or hondermarck every day in front of either. 8k a week an all
Thought he actually showed fight and commitment today and he seems to be given a much more forward role and maybe a goal would give him the confidence to kick on he’s plenty young enough to improve.
I do not know why you would play both these too as posed to him, even though I admit he’s not lived up to expectations yet, wot do base it on?.....Hondermarck would have started by now if he were ready, don’t forget he came to be part of the under 23s, Wolfe isn’t ready yet either in my eyes, although Asbaghi hasn’t totally impressed us all yet he probably does have more knowledge of these 2 than us, .....you asking for these to be in team and you not seen either play a full game, Hondermarck with his physique would have played by now if he were ready, weren’t he on loan at Harrogate recently before we signed him?....massive step up from that to championship mate
Although tempted to agree with the consensus re Palmer and Benson, I do think a lot of it boils down to confidence at the moment, losing every week, fans on their backs, different formation and position from one game to the next. Reminds me of Herbie Kane falling flat when he joined. Never did it for us but obviously playing well and with confidence out on loan. I do still have hope that there are decent players in these lads and that the feel good factor of a rare win might spark better performances from them. Styles showed what he could do last year on a regular basis. I had wanted him more involved in midfield but have come to the view that Val had it right all along with LWB. Bring back Val now and I’d be confident of him getting the best out of them all and keeping us up.
The low measure for a reds midfield performance for me is James Bailey away to Preston. It probably still is, but Benson came close yesterday. Still reckon there's a decent laiker in there though, when he gets some confidence and we figure out how best to use him.
I gave him alot of stick yesterday and rightly so but his confidence must be low probably same with a few. That opportunity he had 1st half were he had a great chance to shoot but instead tried to play styles in and made a total balls up of it said it all.
Nowt to do with confidence. He's done that ever since he joined us. Has the chance to shoot but opts for the easy misplaced pass instead
I was trying to be kind maybe he didnt have the confidence to shoot himself but the pass was abysmal and went out for a goal kick. One of the biggest problems is him turning his back and looking for the sideways backwards easy pass everytime. And he misplaced one of those that nearly cost us a goal.
Many ways I could respond to that, but I think I’ll just agree to disagree. I think Benson has been truly awful for us. One of the poorest signings we’ve made in recent years for me. The little I’ve seen of Wolfe, he’s better. Undoubtedly lots more room for improvement, but IMO he already offers more.
I’ve put my tin hat on here so here goes. Thought he was poor yesterday and I’ve rarely been impressed this season, but……two things. First, he has shown the rare glimpse of having a decent player in there somewhere but he’s playing in the worst midfield I’ve ever seen, so he’s never going to be able to rely on his colleagues. Second, unlike so many who have gone before him, even when it’s going badly he wants the ball, tries to make something happen (though I take the point in the earlier post, that he has become increasingly cautious). I don’t like players who hide away when things are going badly, and as I say, we’ve had a fair few down the years. So, jury still out for me.
He’s been disappointing for sure but he’s a young player with little league experience. Some of the criticism on here is over the top, especially after a win. Give him time he’ll probably be alright. He might not be but some on here need to wind their necks in a bit.
Tbf he’s a player picking up 8k a week in the championship. I think it’s fair to attach a level of expectation to that. It’s not like he’s an academy lad making his debut. We’re in a dogfight, and the absolute minimum should be graft. I’m not even seeing that.
To add to that I'm a bit tired of hearing he's a young kid or they're young kids when talking about our players. They're adult men in their twenties. Josh Benson is a 22 year old man he's not a 12 year old kid. Romal Palmer is a 23 year old man. Hell, even Matty Wolfe is a 21 year old man and we act like he's a child.
