What a ridiculous statement to make. Hondermarck has played about 5 minutes all season. If he was 10x the player do you not think the coaching staff would have noticed?
I’ll put my tin hat on but up to benson getting injured I thought he looked a more than adequate replacement for Mowatt.

I personally didn’t see a lack of effort, confidence sure but not effort. And yeah I’d like him to be better and he may well be with a good run of games. But some of the posts on this thread are insane.

I think it’s more a case of compared to the age and experience (usually) of the opposition.

But the age of the opposition doesn't cause Benson to kick the ball into the away stand

I didn’t think the issue was that too much yesterday it was more hesitancy and always looking for the easy pass/square pass for me which I think you can put down to a combination of lack of experience and confidence

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. As I said from my ‘brief views’ I would need to see more to confirm the opinion. Conversely I have seen enough of Benson to see he doesn’t lack talent, though his delivery from set pieces is incredibly poor, but has minimal impact on most games due to a lack of drive and determination.

if you think that Benson is as good as Mowatt then I’d like a bit of what you’re smoking. He has had zero impact on the team though maybe good enough for the bottom end of L1 where we will probably find ourselves next year.

Just to qualify my opinion, I did say before he got injured.
Nice to see you haven’t lost any of your pessimism

I've no idea whether Benson has what it takes but I always think back to Ian Banks when he first came into the team. The crowd gave him pelters for his first half season but he came through it eventually and Clarkey played him week in week out until he got to grips. Players like Benson have been hung out to dry in a disjointed, ineffective and constantly changing midfield this season and, in addition, repeatedly picked then dropped. As I say, I honestly don't know whether he's up to it but he's been given very little chance to settle in properly.

We have a club that wants to develop younger players and a number of fans that want to write them off in season 1.

Remember it well mate, he came into the side same time as Dave Speedie......he looked dogshit at first, but the staff knew what they doing and persevered with him and the rest is history

Can we not start picking on our players again looking for scapegoats, threads like this trying to slaughter Benson Styles and Palmer boil my piss, Its good to see some people standing up against the crap being posted. Some people need to get a grip, grown bitter and twisted men trying to drag down 3 young men You cant be classed as football or Barnsley fans in keeping on doing it, commenting on a players form or performance is different to some of the ***** on this thread.

Yesterday Gomes was superb. Quina was MOTM & the "Bury Baggio" had a decent game, despite skying a couple. I'm sorry, I think Benson is well out of his depth. He was meant to be a guy who can take set pieces, but he's not been taking them for a reason. He only started yesterday as the only other option was Palmer.

I agree they should not be lambasted on the pitch, but they are earning thousands of pounds a week. Fans are paying money. They have every right to be critical.

Its great signing young players to develop but 1st we need players who can play in the championship and mix it abit sadly we have signed too many league 1/2 standard at best

JB just lacks a lot of confidence at the moment.

People often talk about the experience but it really can be a hinder on the players and you can see that with a few of our players inc Benson.

Poya called it baggage yesterday and you can see Basi and Quina don't have it. Potentially even Vita and they can play with a clear head.

Agreed. Any player has my full support when they are on the pitch and however poor they are I would never boo etc but away from the game a certain critical facility is reasonable.

I want Benson to succeed but even yesterday a misplaced pass intercepted by QPR could have led to an opposition goal. I do t trust Benson when he is in possession or passing, not to gift the ball to our opponents.(Remember Stevie Mallan did this a couple of seasons ago and was taken off at half time never to play again much that season.)

The complete failure to strengthen that position of the team is what will send us down imo. When your options are Palmer or Benson you know you're fècked
